MIDTERM TEST - II
B.Tech. - ECE
Course Category: Programme Core Duration: 24Hrs
Course Code/Course Title: 1151EC108/Electromagnetic Fields Max.Marks:20
Semester: Even Date: 30/05/2020

Achievable Course Outcomes

CO4: Interpret electromagnetic waves and its propagation in different medium.-K3
CO5: Interpret uniform plane wave and its propagation in different medium.-K3

Course
SNO Answer any two question. Each question carries 10 marks Marks Level
Outcome

1 What are all the medium specific propagation parameters of an

electromagnetic wave?
Consider a scenario in which an EM wave propagates from air
medium to some other practical medium. Make a theoretical
description and appropriate justification of typical EM wave
10 CO4 K3
parameters for at least three practical mediums.
Rubrics:
General parameters: 1 mark
Description & Justification: 9 Marks
(For each medium description: 2 marks, Justification: 1 mark)
2 Consider an EM wave with maximum E- field magnitude of 5 V/m
and it is varying sinusoidally at a frequency of 560 MHz is incident
normally from air medium to sea water. A practical studies from
literature confirms the non-uniformity of sea water parameters as
per geographical regions.
Collect the electrical parameters of sea waters existing from at least 10 CO5 K3
two different parts of the world. (Reference literature should be
mentioned)
Find the amount of reflected and transmitted electric field strength
at the interface between air medium and sea water (two sea water
cases).
