Introduction

Welcome to your extra practice exercise that will give you an opportunity to further
practice your construction drawing.

Simple construction drawing – Cyril the squirrel

With this construction drawing of Cyril the squirrel you are given some simple shapes
to draw a cute little squirrel.

Lesson Outline:

• Draw your construction shapes for Cyril the squirrel


• Draw the outline over the top of Cyril the squirrel

Art Materials:

• 1 pencil
• Paper (any paper for drawing on)
• 1 eraser (optional, if you don’t have an eraser press super softly on your pencil)

Prerequisite: Essential Skills

Before you begin this drawing project it would be most beneficial if you have studied
either of the following ‘Just Pick Up Your Pencil Series’ and any prerequisites
recommended to do these;

1. Peppie The Pup Parts A and B or


2. Tahlula Ted Parts A and B
3. Oscar The Cat

Cyril the Squirrel Construction Drawing: Step One

Remember to use your pencil to compare the angles to the side of your page when
you are drawing the basic shapes for Cyril the Squirrel. Draw with angles before you
add the curves last. Take another look at the ‘Accents’ in the final outline drawing.

It’s a great idea to first of all draw a rectangular box around Cyril, the same way that
have drawn the rectangle around Oscar the Cat earlier in the ‘Just Pick Up Your Pencil
Series.’ Draw the rectangle at the maximum height and the maximum width of Cyril.
Then draw in the diagonal cross to find the vertical and horizontal centre cross.
