1- Generalities
Client: SURO
Consultants group:
LC: Passillo-Amout Sepehr J.V with the collaboration of Namvaran Co. for architectural studies
of stations and Depot.
IC: TEAM Engineering from Italy and Geoconsult C. (Austria) for tunnel studies and
underground activities and SISTRA 2000 (Italy) for system studies.
Considering the studies carried out in design criterions of Shiraz Urban Railway Line 2 and considering
the experience of international consultant of the project about stations cooling system, A/C (Air-
conditioner system) is considered for the proposed system in the studies. Due to some ambiguities about
this system, international consultant presented a comprehensive comparative report about two systems, air
washer air conditioner which was sent to the client and MC.
Finally, in the meetings between two groups, the final decisions were to change the system from air
conditioner to airwasher in the station. It was assigned to modify all the presented drawings and
documents according to the explanations of this system.
The current report shows the calculations process of ventilation system of the stations with airwasher
system. The bases of the calculations are the previous reports and comments of TEAM Eng. Co.
3- Calculations basics
The concepts and initial principles of the calculations are including the amount of heat load in the station
and tunnel and inside and outside condtions are provided from TECHNICAL NOTE TCN-014
and they are taken into account in the calculations of the attachment. This report is submitted
with an attachment to the client and MC. To increase the coherence of this report, the mentioned
report is explained in the next sections.
For ventilation spaces in each station, two general classifications are considered as:
In the ventilation of technical spaces, cooling system equipments, air and smoke extractor
fans are predicted.
In public space ventilation and administrative ventilation space, the equipments of cooling
airwasher public spaces, ventilation of administrative spaces, air and smoke extractor fans of
administrative spaces and technical spaces of platform are installed. Brief explanations of
each of the spaces are shown in the followings.
5- Ventilating method of technical space of ticket hall level
These spaces are including signaling room, telecommunication, battery room and the spaces
in need of cooling and multi-panel machines are used for the ventilation of these spaces.
Also, to exit the air and smoke of the probable fire, air suction fans are used.
These spaces are consisting of one shaft used to exit air, smoke and heat of condensers and
providing the airflow of condensers.
As this shaft is used to exit smoke, air booth should be considered with the height of above
the level of the upper street in the street to release smoke. The direction of the valves on this
shaft is different in each point that the regulations of architecture group will be notified and
future designs are done in accordance with it.
The drawings in the attachment show completely the location of the mentioned equipments.
6- Ventilation method of administrative spaces, public spaces and leveled technical spaces of
platform
These spaces are including platform space, chief room, control room, ticket hall, the existing
technical spaces in platform level and other spaces.
The existing space for ventilation system is divided into two airwashers location and the location
of fans and ventilation equipments. In airwasher spaces, 3 airwasher with interior pumps and
capacity of 70,000 to 90,000 cfm are considered.
Launching shaft
This section is consisting of two shafts at two sides with the total area of 25.2 square meter. and
it is divided into two equal launching shaft for equal distribution of entering air.
It is worth to mention tha in case of fire in platform level, airwasher pumps are turned off and
their fans are used to feed air barriers.
In the second part, there is ventilation of administrative spaces. The locations in which staffs are,
air and smoke extract fans for administrative spaces and technical spaces of platform level are
located in this place. Also, power pane of the ventilation equipments are located in this space.
The discussed space is consisting of one shaft and this shaft is used for air entering, smoke
extract and also air and heat of ventilation condensers.
Regarding the smoke exiting from this shaft, air booth should be predicted with the smoke
releasing vent above the street level.
All the doors to the air should be impervious (air and etc) and repair men paths to the airwasher
should be considered. The dimensions of the existing space in this arrangement are good for this
item.
Three package of air washer arranged along the station are located as the end of all of these
airwashers are connected to a plenum or one tank after diffuser.
This layout is considered as repair staffs after the installation and also equipment and staffs of
the installation can go and come easily.
In case of using a little power of airwasher equipments, for example, one airwasher, ventilation
of other spaces and all the equipments being cooled with this system is proved.
1 TECHNICAL DATA AND CALCULATION USED FOR BASIC
1. Outside Condition:
Altitude: 1486 m
2. Inside Condition:
Concourse + stairways 60 kW
These spaces
Gen. tech. prem. +serv. 1 kW would be
considered with
Elec. Tech. prem. +sign. 50 kW their specific
cooling systems
Platforms + run. routes 862 kW
Q = sum = 922 kW
B. Calculations
1. Minimum Fresh Air:
Vf= 5x (7679 + 61804) = 347415 m3/h minimum Fresh Air
2. Heat load Effect in Station Temperature:
=>Δt = 10.26°C =>Heat loud would cause a 10.26˚C increase on the inside
temperature as: 24.44˚C(outlet airwasher temp.)+10.26˚C= 34.7˚C and this would
cause a 2.7˚C increase of temperature more than the standard inside temperature
which is 32˚C and therefore the cooling process needs the following air flow:
Considering air washer efficiency is 90%=> 32 – 24.44 = 7.56 =>Δt= 7.56 =>Vf= ?
792777 .30.926×0.24×7.56
Vf = =>Vf = 471,853.5 m3/h =>Vf = 131 m3/s
