Type of Business
Bank of the Philippine Islands, known as BPI, is the first bank formed in the Philippines.
It was founded in 1851 and was the issuer of the country's first currency notes. BPI is the third
largest banking institution in the Philippines in terms of total assets and equity capital. It is also
one of the highest in the banking industry in terms of market capitalization. BPI is licensed to
provide universal banking services granted by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and has a
significant share of the total management of the banking system deposits, loans, and investment
assets. The bank is recognized as one of the top providers of cross-border remittance, life and
non-life bancassurance services, as well as asset finance and leasing services in the country. BPI
is one of the major foreign-exchange suppliers for both retail and corporate clients. BPI's
business focused largely on depositing and extending credit to raw materials and commodities
exporters and local traders, such as sugar, tobacco, coffee, and indigo, as well as financing public
infrastructures. Bank of the Philippine Islands operates the second-largest ATM network in the
country and also a major financial services provider through internet banking, mobile banking,
and phone banking (citation).

As of December 31, 2018, there were approximately 12,588 common shareholders of
BPI. The table above are the top 20 stockholders of Bank of the Philippine Islands. The highest
stockholders of BPI are the PCD Nominee Corporation both Non-Filipino and Filipino that have
37% of shares. Next is the Ayala Corporation which have 22% of shares, followed by Liontide
Holdings Inc. 20% shares, AC International Finance Limited 9% shares, Roman Catholic
Archbishop of Manila 7% shares, and other companies that consist of remaining 5% of shares

Customers
Bank of the Philippine Islands offers a wide range of financial products and solutions that
serve both retail and corporate clients. The bank services include consumer banking and lending,
asset management, insurance, securities brokerage and distribution, foreign exchange, leasing,
and corporate and investment banking.
The BPI’s Credo (what is BPI’s Credo) holds the first responsibility is to the company’s
clients. When the bank understands and discuss the financial needs of customers, BPI will have
faith in their most important financial transactions and create long lasting relationships with the
customers (statement has no cohesion). BPI promised that when the clients do well (do well in
what sense), they also do well like to serve all the client’s needs, because they continue to focus
on how they respond more effectively to the customers' financial needs (revise and paraphrase
the sentence). The strive to deepen their understanding of customer expectations to allow them to

CEO, COO, and Board of Directors (Osia na bahala dito)


BPI’s top management is headed by its President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr.
Cezar P. Consing. He has been in the position since 2013. Aside from the company, he is also
associated with Ayala Corporation, BPI’s controlling shareholder, as their Senior Managing
Director. Next to him is Mr. Ramon L. Jocson who is the company’s Executive Vice-President
and Chief Operating Officer (COO). Aside from this, he is also the head for Enterprise Services
Segment (ESS) of the company which performs as the support of the whole organization. This
segment includes functions such as Human Resource, Information Systems, Corporation Affairs

The company is composed of 15 members in the Board of Directors:

a. Mr. Jaime Augusto Zobel De Ayala - He is the company’s Chairman of the Board of
Directors and since 2004. He also serves as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
(CEO) of Ayala Corporation and Chairman of Globe Telecom, Inc. (insert citation)
b. Mr. Fernando Zobel De Ayala – He is a non-executive director of the board since 1994.
He also currently serves as the President and COO of Ayala Corporation. (insert citation)
c. Mr. Cezar P. Consing – He has been a member of BPI’s Board of Directors fir 17 years.
He currently serves as the President and CEO of BPI since 2013. (insert citation)
d. Mr. Gerardo C. Ablaza, Jr. – He is non-executive director of the board starting in April
2017. He also serves in the company’s controlling shareholder, Ayala Corporation, as

e. Mr. Romeo L. Bernardo – He has been a member of the board since 1998 and has served
as an Independent Director since August 2002. He served as the undersecretary of the

f. Mr. Ignacio R. Bunye – He serves as the company’s Independent Director in 2016.
Previously, he held various positions in the government such as being the Presidential
Political Adviser in 2008, Presidential Spokesperson in 2003, etc. (insert citation)
g. Octavio Victor R. Espiritu – He is currently as one of the Independent Directors and has
been a member since 2000. He was the former President and CEO of Far East Bank &
Trust Company and served as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Ateneo de

h. Ms. Rebecca G. Fernando – She previously became member of the board from 1997 to

i. Mr. Delfin C. Gonzalez, Jr. – He is non-executive director of BPI starting in 2016. He

j. Mr. Jose Teodoro K. Limcaoco – He was elected as the company’s director in 2019. He

l. Mr. Aurelio R. Montinola III – He has been a member of the board since 2004 and served

as a member of the Board of Trustees of Ayala Foundation, Inc. and BPI Foundation, Inc.
