DataPower Gateway Virtual Edition

Version 7.5
IBM®

Quick Start Guide

This guide helps you get started with DataPower Gateway Virtual Edition.
Product overview
The image that is provided by IBM® to deploy a virtual appliance on VMware is a self-contained virtual machine image. The
nonproduction and developers editions are for test and development purposes only.

1 Step 1: Access the software

Download the package from IBM Passport Advantage®. It includes the following components:
? v The image to deploy a virtual appliance.
v The Resource Kit.
v This PDF document.

2 Step 2: Evaluate the hardware and system configuration

To host the virtual appliance on a hypervisor, you must provision adequate resources for any configured DataPower®
services.
The virtual appliance is supported on the following VMware hypervisors:
v VMware Fusion
v VMware Player
v VMware vSphere ESXi
v VMware Workstation
The virtual appliance is supported on hypervisors hosted by the following IBM managed cloud solutions:
v IBM PureApplication® System
v IBM SoftLayer

The minimum resource allocation for each virtual appliance is as follows:

v 2 virtual processors (vCPU)
v 4 GB RAM
v Disk space of 32 GB (if thick provisioned) or 258.6 MB (if thin provisioned)

3 Step 3: Deploy a virtual appliance

Use the appropriate virtual image file to deploy the virtual appliance.
To deploy on a stand-alone hypervisor, IBM provides one OVA file for each edition.
v Production editions: xxx.prod.ova
v Nonproduction editions: xxx.nonprod.ova
v Developer editions: xxx.dev.ova
To deploy on a VMware stand-alone hypervisor:
1. In the VMware product, deploy the OVA image to create a virtual appliance on the hypervisor.
2. Power on the virtual appliance.
3. Use the VMware CLI to log in to the appliance with username: admin and password: admin.
4. Follow the prompts to initialize the virtual appliance.
To deploy on IBM PureApplication System:
1. Import the OVA image to the catalog.
2. Create a virtual system pattern that contains the virtual appliance as a part of the deployment topology.
3. Click Deploy to deploy the virtual system pattern. The pattern deployment dialog box is displayed.
4. Enter the virtual system name and follow the prompts to initialize the virtual appliance.
5. The virtual system information is displayed in the Virtual System Instances window.
4 Step 4: Get started
When your virtual appliance is on a VMware hypervisor, complete the following steps:
1. Access the WebGUI through the URL that you defined when you initialized the web management service. During
initialization, you defined the system identifier.
2. Accept the license agreements.

Note: Hypervisors that do not fully support multilingual OVA files can present a blank license agreement dialog that must
be accepted before the virtual appliance can deploy. When the WebGUI starts, a DataPower license is presented.
When your virtual appliance is managed by IBM PureApplication System, access the WebGUI through
https://ip_address:port.
v The IP address is assigned by IBM PureApplication System. To find the IP address, expand the virtual machine details
and browse to the Hardware and network section. The IP address is for network interface 1.
v You define the port when you edit the pattern properties or when you deploy the pattern and edit its predefined
properties.

5 Step 5: Manage modules

For production editions, purchase modules on IBM Passport Advantage. When you purchase a module, you receive a
package with its activation tool and installation instructions.
For nonproduction and developer editions, disable modules that you do not need with the disablement tool. This tool is
available at no cost on IBM Fix Central.
