depth of 22ft, calculate the number of gallons in the tank and the weight of the gasoline.

6. In a falling - ball viscometer, a steel ball 1.6mm in diameter is allowed to fall freely in a heavy

250mm in 10.4secs, calculate the viscosity of the oil.

29.43N/cm^2. Determine the gas constant and the density of the gas.

12. The velocity for flow over a flat plate is given by u = 3/2 y – y^3/2, where u is the point velocity
in m/s at a distance y in meter above the plate. Determine the shear stress at y = 9 cm. Assume

13. A plate 0.025mm distant from a fixed plate, moves at 50cm/s and requires a force of
1.471N/m^2 to maintain this speed. Determine the fluid viscosity between the plates in poise.
14. Determine the intensity of shear of an oil having a viscosity = 1.2 poise and is used for
lubrication in the clearance between a 10cm diameter shaft and its journal bearing. The
clearance is 1.0 mm and shafts rotate at 200rpm.

17. In a stream of glycerine in motion, at a certain point the velocity gradient is 0.25m/s-m. The
mass density of fluid is 1268.4 kg/m^3 and kinematic viscosity is 6.30 x 10^-4 m^2/s. Calculate
the shear stress at the point.
18. The pressure of a liquid is increased from 60N/cm^2 to 100N/cm^2 and the volume decreases
by 0.2%. Determine the bulk modulus of elasticity.
19. Determine the bulk modulus of elasticity of a fluid which is compressed in a cylinder from a
volume of 0.009m^3 at 70N/cm^2 pressure to a volume of 0.0085m^3 at 270N/cm^2 pressure.
20. Calculate the capillary rise on a glass tube of 3.00mm diameter when immersed vertically in (a)
water, and (b) mercury. Take surface tensions for Mercury and Water as 0.0725N/m and
0.52N/m, respectively in contact with air.
