Note: - only 15 (8+7) question. All numerical all mediatory.

Unit-4
Q.1. Why the power factor of the slip power recovery scheme of speed control induction
motor is low?
Q.2. What is static Kramer drive?
Q.3. What is a static scherbius drive?
Q.4. Bring out the advantages of CSI over VSI fed induction motor drives.
Q.5. Explain closed loop speed control scheme for CSI fed drive.
Q.6. A 4 pole, 50Hz, 3 phase induction motor has rotor resistance of 0.2 ohm per phase
and rotor stand still reactance of 1 ohm per phase. On full load it is running with a
slip of 4%. Calculate the extra resistance required in the rotor circuit per phase to
reduce the speed to 1250 rpm, on the same load condition.
Q.7. A 3 phase, 400V, 50Hz, 100kw, 24 pole, 240 rpm slip ring induction motor has both
to stator and rotor winding connected in star pattern. The ratio of stator to rotor
turns is 1.4. The resistance per phase of rotor referred to stator is 0.03 ohm. The
motor drives a fan which requires 100kw at full load speed of the motor. Determine
the value of the resistance to connect in series with each slip ring, so that the fan
runs at 180 rpm. Assume that torque for the fan varies proportionally to the square
of its speed. Neglect stator resistance, leakage reactance and rotational losses.
Q.8. A 3 phase, 400V, 50Hz, 1460 rpm, 4 pole induction motor is subjected to rotor
resistance control. If the main torque occurs for a chopper duty ratio of δ of 0.2 and
a slip of 0.13, determine the value of external resistance. The stator to rotor turns
ratio is 2 and the resistance of the link inductor is 0.0114. The motor parameter is
R1 = 0.08Ω, X1 = 0.95Ω, R12 = 0.055 and X12 = 0.5Ω.
Q.9. Two 3-phase 50 Hz induction motor have 8 and 6 poles respectively. They are
connected in cascade. The machine having 8 number of poles is slip ring induction
motor. Determine the frequency of the rotor currents and the slip being referred to
each stator rotating field when the combined set has a slip of 2.5% from the
cascaded speed.
Q.10. Compare static Kramer drive and static scherbius drive.
Q.11. Compare CSI fed induction motor drive with VSI fed drive.
