Adaptations
Adaptations
Adaptations are the special features that allow a plant or animal to live in a particular
place or habitat. These adaptations help them to survive i.e. to live and grow in
different areas. These adaptations make it very difficult for the plant to survive in a
different place. This is the reason why certain plants are found in one area, but not in
another.
There are three different types of adaptations: Behavioral, Physiological and Structural.
Behavioral means variation in responses made by plants. Structural means variation in
features of plants. And Physiological means variation in body process. All these
variations are there for their survival.
To suit the surroundings, plants growing in different places differ in their looks too.
That is why Dessert plants look very different from plants that live near the ocean or in
the mountains.
To survive and grow, Plants need food, water, air with right climate and surroundings
and right type of soil.
For example, trees like Banyan, Peepal and Mango grow in warm and dry climate while
trees like Teak, Tamarind, Coconut, Tea, Coffee, and sugarcane grow in Hot and wet
climate.
Some of the trees in plains are evergreen and some are deciduous means they shed their
leaves in dry season to avoid water loss.
Thus, plants have different adaptations with different climate conditions for their
growth and survival.
