Let F and G Be Two Functions Defined As F (X) X +3x+2 and G (X) x+2 Find The FF: A. (F+G) (2) B. (F-G) (1) C. (F.G) (-1) D. (F/G)

1. The document discusses combining and applying operations to functions, including composite functions. 2. A composite function is formed when one function is substituted into another function, such as f(g(x)). 3. Examples are worked out of evaluating composite functions like (f ο g)(x) and finding their domains.

Worksheet in Discrete structure:#9

ALGEBRA FUNCTIONS
Objectives:
1. Combining two or more functions 3. Solving Composite functions
2. Apply the four operations in solving functions

Content:

Let f and g be two functions defined as f(x) = x2+3x+2 and g(x) = x+2
find the ff: a. (f+g)(2) b. (f–g)(1) c. (f.g) (-1) d. (f/g) (3)

Solutions:
a. (f+g) (2) = f(2) =g(2) = (x2+3x+2) + (x+2)
= (22 +3(2) +2)+(2+2)
= (4 + 6 + 2)+ (4)
= 12 +4
= 16

Solve the remaining equation Discover the given answer below:

b. =3 c. = 0 d. = 4

Practice Exercises:
Let f and g be two functions defined as f(x) = 2x2 – 3x + 5 and g(x) =x2-2 find
the ff:
1. (f+g)(2)
2. (f-g) (1)
3. (f.g)(o)
4. (f/g)(3)
What is a Composite Function?
A composite function is a function that depends on another function. A
composite function is created when one function is substituted into another function.

For example, f[g(x)] is the composite function that is formed when g(x) is substituted
for x in f(x), f[g(x)] is read as “f of g of x”. f[g(x)] can also be written as [f ο g](x) or
fg(x). In the composition [f ο g](x), the domain of f becomes g(x).
Suppose that f(x) = 3x+4 g(x)=2x-1

Find: a.) [f ο g](x) b. [g οf](x) c. [fοf](x) d. [gοg](x)

Solutions:
a.) [f ο g](x)=f[g(x)] =f(2x-1) =3x+4
=3(2X-1) +4
=6X-3+4
=6X+1

b.) [g ο f](x) = g[f(x)]= g(3x+4)=2X-1

=2(3X+4)-1
=6x+8-1
=6X+7

Solve for the remaining problems letter C and D.

Practice Exercises:
I. If f(x) =2x-3 and g(x) = 2-5x; Find the following composite functions, and
then find the domain of each composite functions.
a.) (f ο g)(1) b.) (g ο f)(-2) c.) (f ο f)(2) d.) (g ο g)(-1)

Solutions for a.) (f ο g)(1)

(f ο g)= f[g(x)]= 2x-3
= 2(2-5x) -3
= 4-10X -3
=-10X-3+4
=-10x+1
(f ο g)(1) = -10(1) +1
=-10 + 1
= -9 the domain of composite function

Solve for the remaining problems and try to prove the given answer, show your
solutions:
b.) =38 c.) =-1 d.) =-33
