Reflection Paper on "flatten the curve...

"
Covid 19 is a communicable disease, it spread very fast if you happen to have in contact
with person who has this virus. It originated in China, as health experts says it came from bats
and transmitted to some animals that caused mutations, and later on transmitted to humans. On
its first recorded case, it was named NCOV or Novel Corona Virus but as the cases increase and
spread not just in China but also around the world, it became a disease and named COVID-19 or
Corona Virus Disease 19, 19 because it was first recorded in the later part of the year 2019. But
how did it spread that quick? It is because the strain of this virus is different or mutated strain
from other coronavirus that was recorded many years ago and at first, health experts does not
have any idea on how to stop the spread of this new virus. But after a thorough research and
studies, they came up to a conclusion that this virus is transmitted through droplets and other
body fluids from people who have this virus lying inside them. According to the WHO, this can
also be transmitted when a person accidentally hold a certain object that has a virus and touch his
nose, mouth or eyes where it can be an entry point for the virus towards the person’s respiratory
system.  Studies have shown that the COVID-19 virus can survive for up to 72 hours on plastic
and stainless steel, less than 4 hours on copper and less than 24 hours on cardboard.

With this information that health experts were able to recover and after thorough studies
and research, they suggested and strongly appeal to people to maintain at least 1 meter distance
from each other or most commonly know term during this pandemic “social distancing”, it is to
avoid inhaling the droplets that are expelled by the person that has this virus. Social distancing is
the most common intervention done by the experts during this pandemic. Putting communities
on enhanced community quarantine and lockdowns. Governments also does not allow mass
gatherings in order to maintain social or physical distancing to be able to flatten the curve since
there is still no vaccine that is discovered by the experts. As shown in the Washington report, a
free community will have its citizens get infected in a very short period of time, while an
attempted quarantine will have an increase of its cases at the same time recoveries, but is
outperform by moderated quarantine which will probably record lesser number of cases
compared to an attempted quarantine, while the best is an extensive distancing or having the
communities to be under lockdowns so that people will not have to go to work and go out from
their houses, by this time they will record a lesser number of cases and a much higher recoveries
since the movement from people will be very limited. But according to Drew Harris, the report is
just a representation and not the actual reality, it is a representation of how social distancing
affect the goal in flattening the curve of this pandemic but not the actual reality wherein, if it
should be based on the current situation some “sick bouncing balls” should also disappear
representing our brothers and sisters who lost their battle against this deadly virus.
