Topic 1A - Notes

Speed is a scalar quantity that measures the rate of change of distance over time, while velocity is a vector quantity that measures the rate of change of displacement over time. Average speed represents the whole journey by dividing total distance by time taken, while instantaneous speed gives the speed at a particular point on a journey from a distance-time graph. Displacement is a vector measurement of distance in a certain direction, while distance only measures how far an object moves without regard to direction. Acceleration is defined as the rate of change of velocity over time.
