Second semester Examination
2. Flow-Speed-Density relationships.
2012-2013 3. Basic elements for the roundabout intersection.
4. Number and configuration of vehicles for 150ft on-street parking in
case of 30o and 45.

*****************************************************************
Q2/A- Derive the following (10 marks):
1- Superelevation
2- SSD

Q2/B for the following intersection, it has been decided to use a traffic
signal device. The intersection has the following data (15 marks):
Flow North South East West
Actual flow (pcu/hr) 600 400 600 650
Saturation (pcu/hr) 2400 2200 3000 3000

Amber time=3 sec, all-red =2 sec; starting delay=2 sec.

Use a 4-phase signalized intersection to find the following:
1- Estimate the optimum cycle time for the intersection.
2- Recommend a signal setting for each phase.
3- Sketch the timing diagram for each phase.
4- Find the number of vehicles expected to be stopped at the west
direction at each phase.
5- The total delay for the whole intersection.
