COURSE CODE& TITLE SEMESTER CREDIT HOURS
TH 3 2 1 0
IM-212 Computer Aided Engineering Design SPRING FALL PR 3 2 1 0
OBJECTIVES
To develop skill of geometric modelling of household/industrial products
To inculcate knowledge and skills of modern CAD Tool
To use the skill of measurements and reverse engineering
TASK
Form a group of maximum 4 students
Choose a product comprising of more or equal to 10 parts
Disassemble the product
Measure the dimension of each part
Model each part in Solidworks/CATIA
Add some unique feature/innovation in that product
Assemble the parts together
If possible, generate mechanism of the product (animation)
Prepare drawings of each part and product
Finally prepare a presentation mentioning following components.
COMPONENTS TO BE ADDRESSED IN PRESENTATION
1. What workbenches are used in the project?
2. How many parts/what are the parts in product?
3. What is new in the product?
4. Constraints applied in Assembly?
5. Difficulties faced during the project?
6. What new you learnt during the project?
7. Market your product to the consumer/customer.
PROJECT MARKING
Addressing components - 3 marks (all above=3, any 4=2, any 2=1, none=0)
Innovation – 3 marks (entirely new =3, partially new=2, slightly new=1, none=0)
Presentation – 3 marks (presented well = 3, presented normally = 2, presented badly =1, none=0)
Report: PDF form of presentation slides – 3 marks (submitted = 3, none=0)
DEFINITION OF COMPLEX ENGINEERING PROBLEM
Engineering problems which cannot be resolved without in-depth engineering knowledge, and have some or all the
characteristics listed below (Tick shows which applies to this project)
1 Range of conflicting requirements (wide range of technical, engg. Issues)
2 Depth of analysis required (no single solution)
3 Depth of knowledge required (research-based knowledge required)
4 Familiarity of issues (infrequently encountered issues)
5 Extent of applicable codes (standards and codes of practice)
6 Extent of stakeholder involvement and level of conflicting requirements
7 Consequences (significant consequences in a range of contexts)
8 Interdependence (component parts or sub-problems)
9 Innovation
