f. Random experiment
g. Sample space
h. Sample points
i. Random variable

2. State the following:

b. If A and B are mutually exclusive then what is P(A∪B)? What about P(A∩B)?
c. If A and B are independent events then what is P(A∩B)?
d. Given the data set: {10, 9, 1, 5, 12, 8, 9, 11, 9, 5, 10, 8, 7, 10}
-Compute for the mean, median and mode.
-Compute for the range and the population standard deviation.
e. Consider the frequency table below

-Determine the class width using the difference between the boundaries.
-Determine the grouped mean, median, and mode.
-Determine the grouped ranged and sample variance.
f. A data set has a mean of 7 and a standard deviation of 6. What is the least possible value in the data set?
What is the highest possible value?

g. Suppose P(A) = 0.5, P(B) = 0.8 and P(A∩B) = 0.3. Use Venn diagrams to find the following:
- P(A∪B)
- P(A∩Bc)+P(Ac∩Bc)

h. Let X be a random variable giving the number of tails minus twice the number of heads in two tosses of a
coin. Construct a PMF for X.

4. Solve the following.

a. In a high school graduating class of 100 students, 54 studied mathematics, 69 studied history, and 35
studied both math and history. If one of these students is selected at random, find the probability that:

-the student took mathematics or history

-the student did not take either if these subjects
-the student took history but not mathematics

b. The probability that Ago will vote on a bond referendum is 0.21. The probability that Bea will vote on the
referendum is 0.28, and the probability that both Ago and Bea will vote is 0.15. What is the probability that
Bea will not vote given that Ago will vote.
c. In a game, a woman is paid P3.00 if she draws a jack or a queen and P5.00 if she draws a king or an ace
from a standard deck of cards. If she draws any other card she loses P4.00. Let X represents his gain.
Construct a PMF for X and find his expected earnings.
d Records show that of students taking a long test, 3 out 4 pass the test. What is the probability that of 6
randomly selected students, 4 students will fail? (Define X. State your parameters)
e. What is the probability that a waitress will refuse to serve alcoholic beverages to only 2 minors if she
randomly checks the IDs of 5 among 9 students, 4 of whom are minors? (Define X. State your parameters)
e. 35 customers arrived at a restaurant in a 5-hour period. Find the probability that less than 5 customers
will arrive in a 2-hour period. (Define X. State your parameters)
f. Find the probability that a person flipping a coin gets the first head on the fourth flip. (Define X. State your
parameters)
