Research on different articles/news clips which became trending on social media because of issues on Human
rights, Economic and Labor issues. Identify and analyze essential points of discussion from the articles and
draw out the underlying problems/challenges in the said issues.

Human Rights Every person has the right to

life and the means to live his or
her life. Moreover, humanity as
a whole has a natural right to be
respected, to worship God, to
live their lives as they choose,
to work and support a family,
and to play an active part in
public life. It is also the duty of
all individuals to preserve their
lives, to respect the rights of
others, to continue to work
together for the good of the
people and to maintain a
mindset of responsibility. The
purpose of government is to
achieve the greater good. This is
best achieved when
safeguarding personal rights
and duties. People's condition is
a big consideration when
determining a country's form of
government. Also, the
government must never
disregard the moral law, and
impartial administration of
justice.

 Economic Issues The development of people and
nations are of great importance
to the Church, which is of
particular interest to those who
seek to escape hunger, poverty,
illness and ignorance. The
Church is committed to
championing a secure supply of
food, disease cures and stable
employment. Every nation
needs the social and economic
structure needed to attain
growth. Every humanity is
called to lend a hand to help
those in need. Development as
a goal has to include both social
progress and economic growth,
enabling men and women to
continue their moral growth
and develop their spiritual
endowments. The richest
nations need to provide aid and
promote solidarity with
developing nations. Fair trade
relations must be built between
strong and poor nations. The
world also needs to focus on
universal charity by building a
more humane community
around the world.
Labor Issues As a result of worker solidarity,
many of the earlier injustices
against workers have ended, yet
some flagrant injustices remain.
Continued worker studies and
their living conditions and new
work and workers solidarity
movements should be carried
out. It is the Church's duty to
help the poor and the weak,
particularly those whose dignity
has been violated. Work also
forms a basis for the formation
of family life – a natural right
and something to which
humanity is called. By providing
subsistence, work enables the
creation of a family. A

 fundamental error of judgment
occurs when one sees human
labor solely from an economic
perspective. To limit
underemployment, we should
use rational planning and
proper organization. It is a
disturbing fact that while not
using many natural resources,
many are jobless and many are
hungry. Workers are paying due
for their services and knowing
he or she is working for
themselves. Employers must
compensate their employees
for the work with an amount
that is sufficient to maintain a
family properly and provide
security for their future.

III. Action

As a group, write a critique paper about the ongoing pandemic happening in our world today. The critique
paper should focus on three points: Human Rights, Integral Human Development, and Spirituality of Human
Work.

Our state of mind has swung between panic, optimism, grief and disappointment. Our present healthcare
system is built on the back of the suffering of the Filipino people. There are patients who were denied
cure and unemployment-based treatments. Only in times of crisis do nations, individuals, leaders – and
systems – really reveal themselves. Doctors, residents, nurses, have been testing positive for COVID-19
over the past several weeks. They were on the front lines of that crisis. For days on end, they have been
in direct contact with multiple suspected and confirmed COVID-19 cases, time and again. Reuse of
personal protective equipment (PPE), such as masks and face shields, has also been a problem for entire
days, if not weeks. Nurses were also using trash bags over their gowns to help extend the length of time
they can use them. There were hospitals that required possibly infected employees to return to work
after only 48 hours with no fever and hospitals that did not test employees because they did not have
enough tests. Doctors and nurses are intubated, as their lungs fail. There is a disproportionate amount of
death in all health care workers, who have high levels of exposure to the virus "by nature of their jobs.”
They have a moral duty to take care of their patients because that's their job. Most people in healthcare,
however, would "do this job" for themselves regardless of protective measures. They were. And they
were. Therefore, they are sick. Therefore, they are dying. The whole world at the moment is feeling so
much tension. Many people are frustrated or frightened, wondering when life could again feel more
normal. Some of us are stuck between questioning whether we're overreacting or underreacting. Right
now, there are so many unknowns and all we can do is sit down and speculate about the many little
outcomes we could face. First of all, we can definitely take some lessons on how important it is to do our
part and not make pandemics worse. We can also take a moment to think about all the little liberties we
miss so much right now. We are living in a time when we are stripped of all those freedoms. Yes, it is for

 a good cause, but at the moment it is also very difficult to know that we are not in full control of our own
lives. Seeing the world at the same time going through severe change, for the same reason, is
simultaneously memorable, terrifying and spectacular. No language barrier, no colour, no race, no
gender, no virus is strong enough to prevent us from getting in touch. People are saving people, and
although we will keep losing some on the way to recovery, we are able to lift each other up. I know we're
more than capable of moving forward in times of uncertainty and fear. We're going to mourn those who
have been lost, we're going to recognize the pain of those who have suffered, and we're going to fight
the consequences that will come, but we're going to be moving on together as well.
