Definition: In music, the dynamics of a
piece is the variation in loudness between
notes or phrases. Dynamics are indicated by
specific musical notation, often in some
detail.

You may be familiar with these terms, and they fall under dynamics:

- pp (Pianissimo), p (piano), mp (mezzo piano), mf (mezzo forte), f (forte),


ff (fortissimo)
- cresc. (crescendo), decresc. (decrescendo), dim. (diminuendo), sf/sfz
(sforzando)
2. tempo
Definition: Tempo can be defined as the
pace or speed at which a section of music is
played

- Adagio - slowly, or very slowly


- Andante - at a medium walking pace
- Moderato - moderately

- accelerando (accel.) - gradually becoming quicker


- ritardando (rit. or ritard.) - gradually becoming slower

Definition: refers to the playing method
used to transition between notes (from one
note to the next)

- Slurs: to play smoothly
