Experiment No.5

5.1: Title
To execute loft command and sweep feature in 3D environment and models using these features.

5.2: Problem statement

The LOFT tool is one the many Solid-works that help you create smooth and organic shapes. It
creates a shape by making transitions between multiple profiles and guides curves thus allowing
you to create complex geometry with a single tool. It helps us a lot in our industrial product
design.

5.3: Objective
After performing this lab session students will be able to build geometric models using loft
feature in Solid-Works.

5.4: Geometric part to be developed

5.4.1: Steering wheel

A steering wheel (also called a driving wheel or a hand wheel) is a type of steering control in
vehicles. Steering wheels are used in most modern land vehicles, including all mass-production
automobiles, as well as buses, light and heavy trucks, and tractors.

5.5: Procedure

5.5.1: Step 1
Select front plane and draw the following sketch

5.5.2: Step 2
Exit the sketch and use revolve
command

5.5.3: Step 3
Now choose reference plane and add top plane as shown.

5.5.4: Step 4
Now draw the following sketch on the reference geometry (top
plane) as shown

5.5.5: Step 5
Exit the sketch and extrude it up to 10mm.

5.5.6: Step 6
Once again go to reference geometry and insert the right plane.

5.5.7: Step 7
Select the upper shown inserted plane, make it normal and draw the following sketch as shown

5.5.8: Step 8
Once again insert a reference plane (right) shown in the figure below.

5.5.9: Step 9
Draw the following sketch on the plane shown above.

5.5.10: Step 10
Now exit the sketch and use 3-D sketch feature to draw the following sketch as shown below.

5.5.11: Step 11
Now exit the sketch and use loft boss/base command

5.5.12: Step 12
Now select circular pattern and to complete the sketch as shown

5.6: Results
We used loft boss/bass command and learned how to create 3D model using this command. We
can create complex geometries using this command in our real life.
