Learning area NUMBERS AND OPERATIONS Topic WHOLE NUMBERS UP TO 1 000 000
Content Standard 4.1 Multiplication of two numbers.
Learning Standard (i) Multiply any numbers up to four digits by one-digit number, and the product up
to 100 000.
Learning Objective Pupils should be able to multiply any numbers up to four digits by one-digit number, and
the product up to 1 000 000.
Success Criteria Pupil will be able to answer simple multiplication questions (individual)
Pupil will be able to multiply any numbers up to 1 000 000 including making estimation.
(iindividual)(in pair)
Pupil will be able to use lattice method to multiply numbers. (in group) ( individual)
Activity 1. Pupils solve simple multiplication questions.
2. Pupils will state the key words for multiplication in Tamil and English. (I-think / traffic
light card)
3. Pupils read the story shown in television and try to solve the problem in the story by
identifying information given.
4. Pupils write mathematic sentences for the question given.
5. Pupils multiply any numbers up to 100 000 including making estimation.
6. Teacher explain the lattice method with few exmples.
7. Pupil’s multiply a number using lattice method.
8. Pupils discuss few high order thinking questions. (Cooperative/ traffic light card).

9. Pupil’s write a multiplication mathematic sentence and discuss in class. (trade a
problem)
10. Pupils present their work to their friend and they give comments and do correction if
necessary. (Collaborative).
11. Teacher give rewards to group that perform well. (reward chart)
12. Pupils do exercise in the given worksheets. Teacher guide and check pupil’s answer
13. Pupils will continue with extra questions after finish the worksheet. (anchor activity)
14. Teacher rotate around the classroom and assist struggling students.  Pair struggling
students with students who have a strong understanding of the concepts presented.
