1) When $143 is divided in the ratio 2:4:5, what is the difference between the largest share and
the smallest share?

2) $400 is divided between Ann, Brian and Carol so that Ann has twice as much as Brian and
Brian has three times as much as Carol. How much does Brian receive?

3) A brother and sister share out their collection of 5000 stamps in the ratio 5:3. The brother
then shares his stamps with two friends in the ratio 3:1:1 , keeping most for himself . How many
stamps does each of his friends receive?

4) If a wire of length 2m cost $10, find the cost of a wire of length 35m.

5) 8 men can dig a trench in 4 hours . How long will it take 5 men to dig the same size trench?

6) A man earns $140 in a 5-day week , what is his pay for 3 days?

7) A ship has sufficient food to supply 600 passengers for 3 weeks. How long would the food
last for 800 people?

8) A car costing $2400 is reduced in price by 10%.Find the new price.

9) After a price increase of 10%, a television set costs $286. What was the price before the
increase?

10) Find the speed in m/s of a point on a bicycle rim of diameter 88cm, making 200 revolutions
per minute.
11) Coffee powder costing $12.75 per kg is mixed with coffee powder costing $8.95 per kg in
the ratio 5:7 by weight. The mixture is sold at $12 per kg. Find the gain percent.

12) A sum of money is divided into three parts in the ratio 2:5:9. Given that the largest share is
$252, find the smallest share.
