Systems Analysis and Design - Workshop 8 Questions
Systems Analysis and Design - Workshop 8 Questions
Workshop 8
Workshops will run to cover the practical aspects of the topic each week with two workshop case
studies that runs across the whole semester and some other examples time to time. The workshop
runs in two parts
• Workshop Quiz
o Students to visit app.gosoapbox.com, click Join and use access code ‘wsquiz’ to
attempt the workshop quiz. Pls note this quiz is not assessable. Students must attempt
this quiz in the time allocated by the workshop facilitator/tutor, followed by
discussions on the student attempt and the topics
• Workshop questions
o This document contains 2 parts
o Part A contains Classwork case study and questions that are done in workshop with
the tutor in Groups of students. Task 1 would always refer to Workshop Case study
and some additional case studies in rest of the tasks and is NOT to be submitted on
vuws for marking.
o Part B contains questions and tasks related to case studies that individual students
need to answer in their own time and submit under link for Submission for Workshop
8 answer, this will form part of as Portfolio exercises as per the information given in
Assessment 1 in the Learning guide.
Task 1
Willowbrook School is a small private school that has retained your services as a systems analyst to
assist in the development of a new information system for the school’s administrative needs.
After presenting the system requirements document to Willowbrook, the staff has approved your
recommendations for a new computer system. Last workshop webegan the design phase of the SDLC
and designed UIs for Michelle. This system for school would contain components such as students,
staff, classrooms, after-care, payments and any other area that may be recognized in sprint review to
be included in a working system.
This workshop we would design user interface including screens and forms for inputs, navigation and
reports for outputs.
Please review the documentation you prepared during the systems analysis phase such as mind maps,
user stories, and process diagrams and design these user interfaces for Willow brook.
Questions
1. Create a switchboard design with appropriate control buttons that lead to system component
namely student. Please make sure that you consider any other area you think should be in a
working system of your own design related to workflow related to UI for Michelle to enter &
edit student details and generate reports.
2. Prepare storyboards that show lower-level menus including data entry screens. Allow Michelle
to add, update, or delete student. Suggest context-sensitive and specific help and feedback for
the proposed screens.
3. Suggest at least six types of data validation rules for three data entry screens created in part 2
above.
Task 2
In workshop earlier, you identified user story where the patients would like to view their history.
Please revisit the description you gave and then read below…
You have been asked to write a smartphone app to display this history. The smartphone app would
connect to the monitor using Bluetooth and collect the previous 24 hours’ data. Using a drawing
program such as https://app.moqups.com, sketch out the screen to view this history. Explain your
screen(s) and controls—how they work and what they mean. Remember the principles you have
learned, especially about affordance and visibility, and the capabilities of smartphones.
2. How would you combine graphical display with actual numeric values? How would you display this
information? What icons would you use?
3. How would you allow messages to be entered? Voice or text? How would you activate that feature?
How would you play back or redisplay the messages?
4. How would you indicate the ability to transmit this data to the medical staff?
5. What changes would you make to the user interface if this were a tablet app instead of a
smartphone?
The following Web site shows a very small “on the belt” display. Your smartphone will have more
built-in capabilities, but this Web site can give you a starting point.

Part B: Portfolio exercises to be included in weekly submissions
Task 1
Background
Tools 4 U is a tool rental company that reaches out to people with little or no experience. The
firm has a staff of technicians to help customers select the right tools, show them how to use the
tools, and provide 24/7 support. The company is working on an online system to manage its growing
business. The company asked you to help design the user interface.
Task 2
As On the Spot Courier Services continues to grow, Bill discovers that he can provide much better
services to his customers if he utilizes some of the technology that is currently available.
Previously, customers were able to either call On the Spot and request a package pickup or visit the
company's Web site to schedule a pickup. Once customers logged in, they could go to a Web page that
allowed them to enter information about each package, including “deliver to” addresses, size and
weight category information, and type of service requested. On the Spot provided “three hour,”
“same day and overnight” services. To facilitate customer self-service, On the Spot didn't require exact
weights and sizes, but there were predefined size and weight categories from which the customer
could choose.
Using the guidelines and suggestions in lecture 8, design a user interface(s) using form-designing
application such as https://app.moqups.com/ to create the screens.
Q1. Create a interface of the customer login screen and another for the pick up screen which contains
the following for pickup details
Name
Address
Pickup
Schedule Pickup with enter time facility
Size of Package
Weight of package
Q2. For each of the login and pick up screen, suggest three data validation criterion.
Task 3
Ocean SoundCollege is a liberal arts college located on the West Coast. You are the systems analyst
assigned from the college IT department to conduct the systems analysis phase of the development of
a new listing system for the school’s housing office. The college has requested for a detailed report to
be generated on a monthly basis on the student attendance for each month for each class. Report
should include default student information such as name, class , age , followed by number of days
attended and class attended percentage of student out of total sessions. For example if a student has
attended 6 out of 10 then his attendance is 60%. Design a sample report with all characteristics of
report design.
Q1. Design the requested report with all characteristics of report design.
Q2. Would you include data validation in the report? Justify your answer
