Congratulations on taking the first step to a successful career in

accounting! Since 1972, Beta Alpha Psi & Accounting Society has
provided accounting majors at California State University, Long
Beach an environment for growth and development.
We are honored by the trust, confidence, and support you have given us as we lead
Beta Alpha Psi & Accounting Society this semester. We are here to guide you with
your future endeavors in this organization, and we will do whatever we can to help
you have a successful semester. Our goal this semester is to promote and maintain
professionalism, integrity, and collaboration. We know that with these three core
values, we will have another successful semester.
As a member, you will be provided with many opportunities to enhance your
networking, teamwork, and interpersonal skills, which are what all employers look
for in a recruit. With the help of our committees, we have worked hard to prepare a

these events will help transform our members from students into marketable

We, the members of Beta Alpha Psi & Accounting Society, in our
mission to be responsive to the needs of a dynamic accounting
profession, shall encourage and foster the ideals of professional
excellence in the field of Accountancy, Finance, and Information
Systems.

We shall promote the highest ethical standards; encourage

membership interaction between the business community,
alumni, instructors, and fellow students; instill a sense of social
and public responsibility; facilitate opportunities for
self-development and leadership; and continue governing
ourselves as an international honors organization in
preparation for our chosen profession.”

Membership Information
Beta Alpha Psi & Accounting Society work together for the benefit of the
students. All events are open to both clubs. Accounting Society is
classified as an on-campus club, while Beta Alpha Psi is an international
honors organization.

Accounting Society (AS)

Accounting Society is open to all students - even
non-accounting majors! AS members have no
requirements to fulfill during the semester.
AS is a great way to get started if you are unsure about pledging,
or would just like to learn more about the accounting profession.
While Beta Alpha Psi and Accounting Society are separate by
title, the two operate as one organization.
Cost: $70 per semester

Beta Alpha Psi (BAP)

Beta Alpha Psi is an internationally recognized honors
organization for accounting students. Membership in BAP
requires the completion of the pledging process. Once
admitted, BAP members are required to maintain a level of
participation.
BAP is a highly recognized organization among employers, often
giving preferential status over non-members. All students are
encouraged to pledge and become members.
Cost: $70 returning // $140 candidate per semester

To become a Beta Alpha Psi candidate, a new PLEDGE
member must meet the following requirements: CANDIDATE

Events and Activities
As a member of our organization, you have the opportunity to participate
in many events not found in other organizations. With strong leadership
and high member participation, we are able to design events that address
the important skills needed by our profession.

Speaking Engagements Professional

As our most frequent event, speaking engagements allow professionals
from firms and other organizations to present about a professional skill.
Speaking engagements are also a great way to learn about each firm and
the people who work there. Our meetings are held on Mondays and
Wednesdays from 5 pm to 6 pm in PH1 223, unless otherwise stated.

Firm Tours Firm Tours

Firm tours provide the opportunity to experience a company’s culture
first-hand. You and approximately twenty other students will interact
with professionals from the firm you tour. This allows you to get an idea
of what it is like to work at that firm, and potentially meet future
colleagues.

Community Service Community Service

BAP&AS has the potential to create change in our community. Some of
our past community service involved the LA Food Bank, OC Zootacular,
KPMG Literacy Day and the Moss Adams M.A.T.C.H. Donate Life 5K. This
semester, we are continuing to look into how our organization can
create an impact on those in need within the Long Beach community.

Social Events Social Events

One of the best parts of BAP&AS is meeting other students through our
social events. Some of these events include the Meet & Greet and Big
Buddy Little Buddy, as well as social events that are organized by the
pledge class each semester. You never know, you may meet a life-long
friend!

 Event:
Meet the
Firms

Meet the Firms (MTF) is the biggest event that we host. This
formal reception enables students to meet, socialize, and
network with firms, members, and other accounting
professionals who represent numerous industries and
government agencies.
We invite many organizations to MTF to provide you with a broad spectrum of
opportunities. The majority of the attending organizations are public accounting
firms. This group consists of local, regional, national, and Big 4 firms.
The officers assemble a resume book containing all of the resumes of members
who will attend the event. The resume book is then given to the attending
organizations prior to MTF, which means you do not need to bring a resume.
The event lasts for about three hours, which gives you plenty of time to speak
with representatives of the organizations in which you are interested.
We also host Mock MTF so that you may have the opportunity to practice your
networking skills prior to the actual event. Here you will learn all about
professional accounting attire, email etiquette, asking the right questions, and so
much more that will help prepare you.

Initiation
Banquet

The Awards & Initiation Banquet is the second largest

professional event that our organization hosts each semester.
It is a formal, professional dinner that provides you the
opportunity to further network with professionals.
This event is held at the end of every semester to recognize those students being
initiated into the income officer board and those who have completed their
requirements to become a member of Beta Alpha Psi or have earned the
Accounting Society Gold Member Status.
During the ceremonies, we give out awards and scholarships to those students
who have demonstrated, academically or through their participation, leadership
and outstanding contribution.

Resources
Beta Alpha Psi & Accounting Society is one of the most involved
student-run organizations on campus. Since our organization is focused
on the overall success of our members, we have developed four main
resources to assist you:

Professional Development
The Professional Development Committee assists members with
resumes, cover letters, follow-up emails, and mock interviews.
Additionally, they facilitate study sessions designed to help members
keep their grades up, seek help with any class they may find difficult,
and offer another way for BAP&AS members to connect with each other.

Resume Development
Every semester before Meet the Firms, the Resume Committee matches
each member with a seasoned member to provide constructive
feedback on your resume. Seasoned members know what makes a good
resume, and they can help make your resume stand-out from the rest.
Membership will give you access to this free service.

Mock Interviews
Mock interviews are an invaluable opportunity for you to practice and
improve your interviewing techniques. A seasoned member will
interview you and ask questions that you can expect to find in a typical
accounting interview.

Alumni Mentorship
The best part of BAP&AS is connecting with members who have
graduated and are working on their careers. Our alumni are a great way
for you to network and build relationships that can last into your own
career. Networking with alumni is one of the smartest ways you can
improve your chances of being hired by your desired firm.
