Atharva College of Engineering: Assignment-2

This document is an assignment sheet from Atharva College of Engineering for the class BE CMPN 1,2 in the subject Artificial Intelligence. It contains 5 questions related to different topics in AI like propositional logic, first order logic, resolution, forward and backward chaining, planning, supervised and unsupervised learning, expert systems, decision trees, Bayesian networks, and natural language processing. The students are asked to answer the questions which involve concepts like converting statements to CNF, representing statements in first order logic and proving them using resolution, explaining forward and backward chaining with examples, designing an agent for the blocks world problem, explaining supervised vs unsupervised learning with examples, describing the architecture and advantages

Academic Year: 2018-19 Semester: VII

Class / Branch / Division: BE / CMPN / 1,2
Subject: Artificial Intelligence

Assignment-2

Q.1 a) Explain the steps involved in converting the propositional logic CO3
statement into CNF with a suitable example.

b) consider the following axioms: CO3

All people who are graduating are happy.

All happy people smile.
Someone is Graduating.
i) Represent these axioms in first order predicate logic.
ii) Convert each formula to clause form
iii) Prove that “Is someone smiling?” using resolution
technique. Draw the resolution

Q.2 a) Illustrate forward chaining and backward chaining in propositional logic with CO3
example

b) Explain the partial order planner with an example. CO4

Q.3 a) Design the planning agent for Blocks World Problem. Assume suitable CO4
initial state and final state for the problem.
b) What is supervised learning and unsupervised learning? Give example of each. CO4

Q.4 a) Explain the architecture of Expert system. What are the advantages and CO4
limitations of Expert system?

b) Explain Decision Tree learning with an example? CO4

Q.5a) The gauge reading at a nuclear power station shows high values if the CO4
temperature of the core goes very high. The gauge also shows high
value if the gauge is faulty. A high reading in the gauge sets an alarm
off. The alarm can also go off if it is faulty. The probability of faulty
instruments is low in a nuclear power plant.
i) Draw the Bayesian Belief Network for the above situation.
ii) Associate a conditional probability table for each node.

b) What are the levels of knowledge used in language understanding? Also CO5
write down the techniques used in NLP?
