A. Records
B. Site Clearing/Preparation
The site shall be cleared and debris to be removed from the site. The top soil may be
stripped and stocked at suitable places to be used for turfing and landscaping purposes
as instructed by Superintending Officer. Existing utilities and services that are
affected by the construction shall be relocated.
C. Excavation
All excavation will be carried out to the required lengths, breadths, depths,
inclinations and curvatures as per the Engineer’s Earthwork Drawings.
The base of all excavations after being trimmed and leveled, shall be well rammed
and compacted to form a solid formation to the approval of Engineer. The Contractor
will prevent damage the prepared formation form weathering, trampling by workmen
and other construction activities.
Blinding or concreting may only carried out after the inspection and approval by the
Engineer.
Surplus or rejected excavated material not required for filling is to be transported off
the Site to an approved dump site provided by the Contractor.
D. Filling
Filling shall be carried out to the lines, levels and grades required to complete the
permanent construction.
Fill material shall be well graded suitable fill material unless otherwise approved by
the Engineer.
Fill material shall generally be placed in layers and uniformly compacted to the
satisfaction of the Engineer before the next layer is applied. Compaction tests shall be
carried out as per Engineer requirement or instruction.
The Contractor will detect, protect, uphold upkeep and maintain all existing services
such as roadside drains, mains, ducts, water supply pipes, sewers, gas conduits,
electrical and telephone cables.
If it becomes essential in the opinion of the Engineer and the local Authority to
temporarily or permanently divert any cable, pipe or other service, the Contractor will
give notices to the Local Authority and arrange the diversion work to be carried out.
The Contractor will give attention to the stability of side slopes and prevention of
deterioration of the sides if excavation by prolong weathering. Temporary slope
protection will be provided to the unstable slope.
The Contractor is to keep the excavation well drained and dry by constructing
temporary slopes, drains, sumps and etc as per the Engineer’s Drawing.
