1. The current flowing in a PN-junction diode at room temperature is 200nA, when a large reverse bias is
applied. Calculate the current through the diode when 0.1V forward bias is applied.
[Ans. 9.165µA]
2. In the given circuit of fig.1, a silicon diode with knee voltage 0.7V is used. The dynamic resistance of the
diode in forward bias may be assumed to be zero.
(a) If VDD=5V, what should be the value of R to establish a current of 5mA in the circuit.
(b) Determine the power dissipated in the resistor R and in the diode D, when a current of 5mA flows in the circuit
at VDD=6V.
[Ans. (a) 860Ω (b) 26.5mW, 3.5mW]
3. Germanium diodes D1 and D2 with knee voltage 0.3V are used in the circuit given in fig.2. Determine the
potential of point X with respect to point Y.
[Ans. VXY= -0.5V]
4. The diodes used in the circuit fig.3 are identical with VT=0.6V and RF=10Ω Determine VD, ID and Vo as marked

[Ans. (5.)
1A (6.) 0A]
7. Determine the current through the circuit of fig.5, assuming the diode to be piecewise linear model with V T =
0.3V and rf = 8Ω.
[Ans. 25mA]
8. Determine the value of the current through the 300Ω resistor in the circuit of fig.6, Assume that the diodes D1
and D2 are ideal. [Ans.
16.66mA]
