Esri India GIS Academy Program (EIGAP) – April 2018

Audience: Professors, Faculty members, Department Heads, Directors

Institutions: Engineering or Science Colleges with Geography, Geoinformatics, Geo Sciences, Civil
Engineering, Urban Development, Environment/Sustainability or similar courses

About Esri India: Esri is world's leading Geographic Information System (GIS) software and
solutions provider. For almost 2 decades, Esri India has worked with thousands of customers, across
a diverse range of industries such as Government, Academia, Defence and Private Sector helping
them make timely, informed and mission-critical decisions by leveraging the power of geography.

About EIGAP: The program is focused towards capacity building for much required GIS
professionals in the country. There is a considerable demand of high quality and well trained GIS
professionals in industries and sectors like Utilities, Mining, Telecom, Oil & Gas, Defence &
Intelligence, Banking and Financial sector, Retail, Insurance, Space, Central & state Governments,
Smart Cities, Education and more. Moreover, the recent growth spurt in GIS industry because of
government backed projects like AMRUT, Smart Cities, Swachh Bharat and others has increased the
demand of industry ready GIS professionals.

Unfortunately, there are very few institutions in the country today providing the required skills on
Geospatial and related subjects. This shortcoming in past few years has increased the gap in
availability of trained professionals. One of the studies by the national task force of MHRD
highlighted that:

 As of 2015, only ~31,000 GIS tech professionals were available against a requirement of 70,000

To address the above gap, Esri India is engaging with academic institutions to help them with the
current technology tools and training to further augment their efforts in building right skilled
capacity for Geospatial industry.

As part of the EIGAP program, every member academic can:

 Esri software at affordable price points to setup a GIS Lab for a department
 Workshops and seminars by Esri India for students on advances in GIS technology*
 Faculty development program to equip faculty with up-to-date knowledge of Esri software
(Where Service Pack is included)
 Relevant curriculum recommendations from Esri India on GIS and related technologies
