Safety
WARNING! Incorrect operation or shoddy workmanship can cause serious injury
or damage.
All functions described in this document may only be carried out by trained and
qualified personnel after they have fully read and understood the following docu-
ments:
- this document
- all the operating instructions for the system components, especially the safe-
ty rules

Device concept The RI FB PRO/i robot interface serves as the interface between the power source and
standardised bus modules for a wide range of communication protocols (e.g. Profibus,
ProfiNet IO, DeviceNet, CANopen, etc.).
The robot interface can either be fitted to the power source at the factory by Fronius or at
a later time by suitably trained technicians.

Environmental
CAUTION! The device may be seriously damaged if it is operated or stored out-
conditions
side the specified environmental conditions.
Do not start the device unless you are sure that the environmental conditions will
be adhered to in all operating situations.

Ambient temperature range:

- during operation: -10 °C to + 40 °C (14 °F to 104 °F)
- during transport and storage: -20 °C to +55 °C (-4 °F to 131 °F)
Relative humidity:
- up to 50 % at 40 °C (104 °F)
- up to 90 % at 20 °C (68 °F)

Connection sockets on the robot interface

EN
General remarks NOTE! As a result of customer-specific requirements, you may find that your de-
vice has certain connection sockets that are not described in these operating in-
structions, or vice versa. However, this does not affect the basic functions of the
device.

Connection sock-
ets for the power (1) USB connection socket
source and sys-
tem components (2) Ethernet connection socket

(1) (3) SpeedNet connection socket

(2) for connecting the SpeedNet
connection cable - to connect the
(3) power source to the robot interface

(4) (4) SpeedNet connection socket

for connecting the SpeedNet cable
from the interconnecting hosepack
- to connect to other system compo-
nents, e.g. the wirefeeder

Connection sock- NOTE! The robot interface is supplied with one of the following connection con-
ets for the robot figurations depending on the requirement.
control
Basic configuration example:

(1) Strain-relief device

The robot control cable harness
must be guided through the strain-
relief device inside the robot inter-
face and connected directly to the
bus module.

(1)

7
ProfiNet IO, Ethernet/IP 2P, etc. configuration example:

(2) Connection sockets for the rel-

evant bus module
The connection sockets for the
bus module are routed to the out-
side of the robot interface at the
factory. The robot control cable
harness can be connected directly
to the outside of the robot inter-
face.

Reliability
WARNING! An electric shock can be fatal. Before starting the work described be-
low:
- turn the power source mains switch to the "O" position
- disconnect the power source from the mains
- ensure that the power source remains disconnected from the mains until all
work has been completed

After opening the device, use a suitable measuring instrument to check that elec-
trically charged components (e.g. capacitors) have been discharged.

WARNING! An inadequate ground conductor connection can cause serious inju-

ry or damage. The housing screws provide a suitable ground conductor connec-
tion for earthing the housing and must NOT be replaced by any other screws that
do not provide a reliable ground conductor connection.

Interfacedesigner

General remarks In connection with the RI FB PRO/i robot interface, the Interface Designer is also available.

The Interface Designer allows the process image to be adapted to customer-specific re-
quirements and has functions such as:
- Changing signal designations
- Establishing logical links
- Changing the process data width
- etc.

Prerequisites for using the Interface Designer:

- Interface Designer, for creating the process image - supplied free of charge with the
interface/available to download
- Upload licence, for uploading the process image to the interface- must be purchased
from Fronius
