Methods and Procedures: o o o o o o o

This chapter outlines the research methods and procedures used in the study. It describes a descriptive research design approach using both quantitative and qualitative methods like document analysis. The study focuses on vehicular accidents in the municipalities of the First District of La Union over the past three years. Data will be collected from police station records then analyzed using statistical tools like Pareto analysis to identify key risk factors. The output will be a validated action plan for reducing vehicular accidents in the region submitted to transportation experts for feedback.

CHAPTER III

METHODS AND PROCEDURES

This chapter presents discussion on the research design utilized by the

researchers, the sources of the data which includes the locale, population, and

duration of the study, instrumentation and data collection, tools for data

analysis, output and ethical considerations.

Research Design

The research design utilized in this study will be a descriptive type of

design. According to Dr. Y.P. Aggarwal (2008), descriptive research is devoted

tootheogatheringoof information about prevailing conditions or situations for

the purpose of descriptionoand interpretation. This type of research method is

not simply amassingoandotabulatingofactsobut includes proper analyses,

interpretation, comparisons, identification of trends and relationships. The

researchers will also use quantitative research approach in the study.

Quantitative Research is a structured way of collecting and analyzing data

obtained from different sources. Quantitative Research involves the use of

computational, statistical, and mathematical tools to derive results. It is

conclusive in its purpose as it tries to quantify the problem and understand

how prevalent it is by looking for projectable results to a larger population.

The researchers will employ document analysis to determine the degree

of seriousness and the most risk factor that affects vehicular accidents in the

First District of La Union.

Sources of Data

Locale, Population and Duration of the Study

The researchers chose the first district of La Union as a locale of

the study because it is the most accessible and most convenient locale near the

researchers considering that some of the researchers mainly live within this

particular area and others live within its immediate vicinity. The study covered

the municipalities of San Fernando, San Juan, Bacnotan, Balaoan, Bangar,

and Sudipen.

The study will be conducted at Saint Louis College during the first

semester school year 2019-2020.

Instrumentation and Data Collection

To acquire the data needed in the study, the research instrument to be

used by the researchers will be records. The researchers will request for the

good office of the police stations of the different municipalities of District 1 of

La Union to determine the occurrence and causes of vehicular accidents along

National Highway. The data to be gathered will be vehicular accidents that

happened for the past three consecutive years. The sources of data will be
coming from the police stations of the different municipalities of the first

district of La Union.

Tools for Data Analysis

The data that will be collected in the study will be subjected to

treatment. In order to arise for a better presentation and interpretation of data,

the results will be tallied and tabulated. The pareto analysis will be used in

order to determine the degree of seriousness and the most fatal risk factor

affecting the variables involved in vehicular accidents.

The Output

The output of this study is a validated action plan for the risk

management of vehicular accidents in first district of La Union. The results and

findings of the study will serve as bases for the inputs to the validated action

plan. The validated action plan includes rationale, the objectives of the plan,

the strategies to be engage in activities, the person or agencies involved, the

activities to be discovered and comprehended in addressing the problems, the

span of time in finishing the activities, and the indicators for success. The

output of the study will be submitted for validation to the experts related to

transportation and accident responders to ensure its applicability and

serviceability.
Ethical Considerations

The researchers will assure the protection of the well-being of the

respondents in terms of their consent ensuring they are informed before and

during the conduction of questionnaires, and their freedom from coercion in

which the respondents will not be physically and emotionally harmed in order

to be the respondents of the study. The data and results of the study will be

confidential by securing the personal information of the respondents of the

study and the researchers will assure to show integrity and honesty on the

research process. The sources of information presented in the study will be

cited in avoidance of plagiarism.
