BSN- 2A
STS (Activity for Week Starting 03/16/20 Ending 03/20/20)

1. Do you think it is possible for artificial intelligence to outsmart human beings? How and
why?
Answer:
Despite its power, for me there is only a small possibility that artificial
intelligence can outsmart human beings because it cannot think autonomously as
people do. Artificial intelligence performs functions which are laid down by the
program. Also, it has no ability of creative thinking, which is characteristic for
human beings. It is impossible to create some things which are more potent than
the human brain because not all the parts and functions of the human brain are
investigated and understood. In such a way, those uninvestigated capacities of the
mind will not allow the artificial intelligence to outsmart humans.

2. By citing one life example in the context of science, technology and society, summarize
your example from the saying, “what goes around comes around”?
Answer:
Science and technology makes our lives simpler. Works can be done easier
through high- tech machines and equipments. It gives less work for humans and our job
can be done faster. It makes us feel comfortable and easy to live. As a result,
Technology- based persons are indolent because they are too dependent on it and don’t
work anymore. People’s lifestyles changed. The traditional style of living is deleted and
replaced by modern style of living that destructs our culture and society. If we
manipulated technology, then technology also manipulated us.
3. Cite at least two (2) concerns you have regarding the dangers of modern technology and
how do these compare to Heidegger’s views?
Answer:
Increasingly social media is continuing to reduce people’s real communication
skills and working knowledge and as life becomes more and more monitored, what was
previously private space will become public, causing more stress in people’s lives. In
losing sight of the constructed setup as our creation and by reducing all that exists to
mere resources for our consumption we put ourselves in danger according to
Heidegger, a troubled position in which we forget and become trapped into leaving the
human out of our human experience of the world. We forget our role in the whole
process, we lose sight of the very origin of the structures of technological reality .We
come to take the objects of our technological perspective as the way that things actually
are out there, as “pure being,” mistaking our projections for a world that is given to us
ready-made in that manner
4. Do you agree that it is important for one to have an enframed mind to understand what
technology truly is? Explain your answer.
Answer:
Yes, it is important to have an enframed mind to understand what technology truly
is however not our entire mind should be enframed. Enframement is important to help
us understand the world and technology but it is not needed all the time .Enframement
can be the reason why technology has a structure because of sorting and putting things
into boxes, people were able to develop technology but as technology grows more
advanced, humans become more enframed and have a narrow and linear way of
thinking which does not help in seeking an authentic experience. Yes, having an
enframed mind is important, but it is not everything

5. Does technology and its development influence peoples’ values, lifestyle, and
dependence on itself? Explain your answer.
Answer:
Yes, the more saturated we are with technology the more integral it is to us,
which is why with the rise of more advanced technology accessible for many, it becomes
part of the routine. Examples include having an automatic vacuum, live security footage,
or artificial intelligence that is willing to answer any questions or take any of your calls.
The more technology that exists the more we try to fit in our lives to make it easier.
People's values change over time, even to the point that people consider these
technologies with fondness and give it some sort of sentimental value. The quality of life
has changed due to technology and it has made things easier for everyone, thus, the
easier it gets, the more dependent we become.

6. How would you define a good life? What are the three (3) elements that constitute your
definition of a good life?
Answer:
A good life is a life that is in balance and fully satisfies and fulfills you. It does not
set you on a pursuit of wealth, status and pleasure, but creates happiness, fulfillment
and joy through understanding the world you live in, mastering yourself and helping
your community to thrive. The three elements that constitute my definition of good life
are willpower, knowledge and involvement.

7. Just like Ann Birgitta Pessi’s model, construct your own unique arrow illustrating the
needs of a good life? Explain your answer.
Answer:

LOVE RELATIONSHIP HEALTH FINANCIAL SPIRITUALITY SATISFACTION

STABILITY
