Hi everyone!

Welcome to another video from Easy English!

Here you can improve your English easy and quickly

Today we´re gonna talk about a very important topic for English learner´s

Let’s learn about First Conditional

Here we go!

First Conditional

First conditional are used to explain about conditions that have a real possibility of happening in
the future.

It´s not 100% sure but there is a big chance that it will happen

The first conditional describes a specific future event

Let’s look at an example

If I miss the bus, I´ll take the train

There a chance for me to take the bus if I miss the train YES! Can this happen YES!

Does it mean that take the train is 100% guaranteed NO! but is a very likely thing that can happen
and that is a First conditional sentence.

First conditional sentence its made up of two parts.

The first part is the condition here it is: If I miss the bus

And then there is the result: I´ll take the train

The first conditional is if the condition is true, then the result can happen in the future

It has the structure of If plus present simple comma will plus present simple

Now for another example

If it rains, I’ll go back to sleep

Is this situation possible YES! Will this situation happen 100% NO!
We have another choice, we can reverse the order, change the order

We can have the result first and then the if condition.

With another example in the different order.

You´ll sleep in the sofa if you don’t clean the house

Here we don’t use the comma.

This is less common but still exist we can also use the present simple for the condition and going to
for the result.

Let me give some example

If you don’t study, you´re going to fail the exam

We used going to for emphasizing in the result, concentrated more in the result.

“Going to” describe a strong intention or a plan in the future.

This is what’s we are going to do if the condition is true, off course.

We can also use present simple follow for a modal for the result.

It is likely more advanced.

Whit MAY

If you do your homework, you may watch TV.

We use “May” in the first conditional to give permission in the future.

Whit CAN

If you eat your vegetables, you can play in the garden.

And this is the same meaning as “May”, we can use in the first conditional to give permission in
the future.

Whit SHOULD

And finally another example with modals,

If you fell ill, you should rest.

And here in the first conditional, we use “should” to give an advice in the future.

We use “should” to say what is the correct thing to do.

And that´s it!
