Engage Phase
Bond papers with letters “T” “Y” “P” “E” “S” “O” “F” “A” “S” “S” “E” “S” “S” “M” “E” “N”
“T” will be taped on chosen students’ t-shirts. Each of them will be asked to define or describe
assessment granting that the first word in their sentences begin with their assigned letter.
Essential Idea:
Assessment measures students’ competence and learning outcomes through using different types
of assessment techniques after target goals have been identified and data synthesized.
Explore Phase
Each student will be given four pieces of cut-out construction paper: Red for Traditional
Assessment, Blue for Authentic Assessment, Yellow for Formative Assessment, and Green for
Summative assessment. Some statements will be presented on the TV screen and they will raise
their construction papers based on which type of assessment the statements are referring to.
Students who get the wrong answers will be asked why they answered such.
Activity 2: “3
Students will be asked to form 4 groups. Each of them will be given one type of assessment.
They will be provided with handouts for their assigned topic after which they will be given 5
minutes to discuss with their group. They will then be asked to present what they have discussed
in no more than 3 minutes. All group members must be able to speak.
Activity 3: “Mergers”
Groups assigned to Traditional and Authentic assessment will be merged, and groups assigned to
Formative and Summative assessment will be merged. They will be given Manila papers with
which they will construct a diagram illustrating the differences between the two types of
assessment Traditional/Authentic and Formative/Summative.
Apply Phase
The two merged groups will be asked to create 4 objectives each for Traditional and Authentic
Assessment and 4 situations each for Formative and Summative assessment. They will write this
down on a piece of paper.
Generalization
The teacher will pick two volunteers to generalize the topic: one for Traditional/Authentic
assessmrnt, and another one for Formative/Summative assessment.
