Assignment – 3

1) The gross commanded area for a distributory is 40000 hectares,75% of which can be
irrigated. The intensity of irrigation for Rabi season is 30% that for Kharif season is 20%.
If kor period is 4 weeks for rabi and 3.5 weeks for rice, determine he outlet discharge .
Outlet factors for rabi and rice may be assumed as 1950 hectares/ cumec and 975
hectares/ cumec. Also calculate delta for each crop.

2) A water course has a culturable command area of 1300 hectares. The intensity of
irrigation for crop A is 40 % and for B is 35%, both the crops being rabi crops. Crop A
has a kor period of 23 days and crop B has kor period is 18 days. Calculate the discharge
of the water course if the kor depth for crop A is 12cm and for it is 18cm.

3) Explain in detail different system of irrigation and methods of irrigation..

4) Write a note on i) crop seasons in Indi ii) irrigation efficiency iii) frequency of irrigation.

5) Explain in detail Kennedy’s theory and lacey’s theory

6) Explain different storage zones of reservoir with neat sketch

7) Explain hydrological investigations of reservoir planning, list the points to be considered


for selection of site for reservoir.
