Lesson Plan 1 - Division of Polynomials by Another Polynomial

This document provides a detailed lesson plan for teaching division of polynomials by another polynomial in Math 7. The objectives are for students to learn the process of polynomial division and solve problems accurately. The lesson will include reviewing rules of exponents, examples of dividing monomials and polynomials, and long division examples worked through on the board. Students will participate actively during discussions and work problems independently for evaluation and as an assignment.

DETAILED LESSON PLAN

In
MATH 7

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
 identify the process of dividing polynomials by another polynomial,
 participate actively during discussion and board work, and
 solve division of polynomials by another polynomial accurately.
II. SUBJECT MATTER:
Topic: Division of Polynomials by Another Polynomial
Reference: e-math 7 (Worktext in Mathematics), Orlando A. Oronce and Marilyn O. Mendoza, page 212 - 218
Materials: Slide Presentations
Value Focus: Critical Thinking
III. PROCEDURE:
A. Preparation
Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity
“Before we start our lesson, kindly pick up the dirts
under your chair, thank you.”
1. Prayer (All students will stand)
“Please stand, let’s pray.”

2. Greetings “Good Morning Sir!”

“Good Morning Class.”

3. Attendance
(Checking of Attendance)

B. Motivation
Slide Presentation: Repeating Patterns
Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

RECALL:
O Rules of Exponents for Division
xm m −n
• n

x (Students will participate actively)
xm 1
• n

“Let’s try again these examples.” (Students will participate actively)

O Quotient with a Monomial Divisor:

1. Division of monomial by a monomial
−18 x 8
3 x4
−25 a5 b5
−5 a2 b3
2. Division of polynomial by monomial

3 0 x 4 + 3 x 4 + 25 x 8
3 x4

C. Presentation
Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

“So class as you mastered the past topic we discussed,

we proceed to our new topic, the division of polynomials
by another polynomial.”

D. Discussion
Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

“You have to be focus because this is quite long and

hard as compared to our past lesson.”

“To divide a polynomial by a polynomial with more than

one term, we use the long division in arithmetic.”

“For example, ( 3 x 2−14 x−12 ) ÷ ( x−2 )”

“We write the problem in long division format.”

“Divide the leading term in the dividend 3 x 2, by the

leading term in the divisor, x. This is the first term in the
quotient.”

“Multiply the result 3x by the divisor x -2 and write the

result under the dividend, 3x(x-2)=3x2-6x.”
(The students will focus and lissten)
“Subtract the quantity 3x2-6x. To do this, add its
opposite. Then bring down the next term of the
dividend, -12.”

“Divide the first term of the result, -8x, by the leading

term in the divisor, x.”

“-8x÷ x =-8. This is the second term in the quotient.”

“Multiply the result, -8 by the divisor x-2. -8(x-2)=-

8x+16”

“”Write the result under the dividend.”

“Then subtract. The remainder is -28. Do not continue

because the degree of the remainder is less than the
degree of the divisor.”

2. 10 x+ 2 x 3 +7 x 2+8 ÷ x +2

3. −4 a2 +6 a 3−10−4 a ÷ 3 a−5

E. Application
Board Work
Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity
3
1. 4 x −41 x+15 ÷ x−3
2. x 2+ 2 x−35 ÷ x+ 7
3. 2 x3 +7 x 2 +10 x+8 ÷ x +2 (Students follow the guidelines)

F. Generalization
Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity
“Before we proceed to our activity, let’s recall what we
discussed.”

“What do we do if the equation is not arranged?”

“Descending order Sir

“What method we use, long division method or

synthetic division?” “Long Method Sir.”

“So class we will stop dividing until the remainder is less “Divisor Sir”
than the ___________?”

“Do you have any questions before we proceed to our

short quiz?”
“None Sir”

IV. EVALUATION:
Solve the following in long division method. Write the on one half sheet of paper (crosswise):

1. x 2+ 2 x−35 ÷ x+ 7
2. x 3+ x−4 x 2 +6 ÷ x−2
3. 3 x 2+ 8 x + 4 ÷ 3 x +2

V. ASSIGNMENT:
Place it in a one whole sheet of paper.
1. 9 x 2−1 ÷3 x−1
2. 10−25 a2 +24 a3 −9 a ÷ 3 a−2
3. x 2+ 7 x +10 ÷ x+ 2
