App for Cerebral Palsy patients

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of permanent movement disorders that appear in early childhood. Signs and
symptoms vary among people and over time. Often, symptoms include poor coordination, stiff muscles, weak
muscles, and tremors. There may be problems with sensation, vision, hearing, swallowing, and speaking.

Communication boards are an effective tool for developing language skills.  The time-
tested devices depict images, words and phrases, which children identify and use to
express themselves.  To show emotions and share thoughts, cerebral palsy patients simply
touch or point to the images, effectively bridging the communication gap between
educators, patients, parents and peers.
Children with cerebral palsy face wide-ranging challenges, but a cerebral palsy
diagnosis does not guarantee limitations. With the help of assistive technology, CP
patients not only overcome movement problems, but they also confront speech and
hearing difficulties.
Technology makes life so much easier and can be helpful for children with Cerebral Palsy. There
are millions of apps out there that are designed for special needs children, but a majority of them
cost a good amount of money. It can be time consuming to sort through apps to find ones that are
free and no parent really has the time for that
How Children Can Benefit from Technology

Cerebral palsy causes a number of different types of disabilities, from issues

with walking to hearing difficulties, and the ability to communicate or even
hold a pencil. The severity of these disabilities ranges from mild to severe
and can impair quality of life, independence, and all aspects of health from
physical to emotional and social.

The use of assistive technology devices can provide a child with a great
number of benefits, including:

 Better academic performance

 More inclusion in activities and recreation
 A more engaged social life
 Improved communication with others and a better response to a child’s
needs as a result
 Increased ability to express emotions
 Enhanced self-confidence
 Greater independence and self-sufficiency
 More opportunities

Conclusions
We identified 63 apps cited in published articles in biomedical databases and on app
marketplaces; of these, 40 were potentially useful for CP and 23 were specifically
designed for the disease. Of the latter group, 11 offered information on the disease, 3
focused on assessment, and 9 were designed to treat aspects of the disease.
