Components QT Y Designat OR Notes Type

This document provides instructions for students to build circuits on a breadboard in both series and parallel configurations. It lists the necessary components which include resistors, LEDs, a breadboard, wire links and a 9V battery. The series circuit instructions explain how to connect one resistor and LED in series across the battery. The parallel circuit instructions explain how to connect four LEDs and one resistor in parallel across the battery. Students are guided through each step to build the circuits correctly on the breadboard.

(Series Connection)

You will learn:

 About resistors
 About LEDs
 How to read a circuit diagram
 How to build a circuit on breadboard

Components
QT PART DESIGNAT NOTES TYPE
Y OR
1 1k resistor (1000 ohm, brown - R1 1/4W, 5% or better Resistors
black - red)
1 5mm red LED D1 Other coloured and sized LEDs could also be used, e.g. Semiconductor
3mm green LED s
You will also need:

1. A breadboard
2. Breadboard wire links
3. 9V battery (nine volt battery)
4. Battery clip

Reading the Circuit Diagram

Building the Circuit

Get the parts and tools ready:

Step 1: Connecting the LED into the Breadboard

Insert the negative wire of the LED to the 10e slot. Then insert the positive wire of the LED to the10f slot.

Step 2: Connecting the Resistor into the Breadboard

Insert the first wire of the resistor to the 10a slot. Then insert the other wire of the resistor to the negative slot of the breadboard.

Step 3: Connecting the wire links into the Breadboard

The black wire of the battery clip is for the negative and the red wire is for the positive.

Insert the negative wire of the battery clip into the negative of the breadboard.

Insert the positive wire of the battery clip into the positive of the breadboard.

Step 4: Connecting the power supply into the Breadboard

Connect the 9v battery to the Battery clip.
