Design of Precast Panel

The document provides design details for precast concrete panels with critical spans of up to 2100mm. It calculates bending moments under self-weight and live loads for two conditions: when placed and when lifted. The maximum bending moment of 1.45kNm governs for the placed condition. Reinforcement details are then designed to resist this bending moment using a concrete grade of M15 and rebar grade of Fe500. The designed reinforcement of 10mm bars at 100mm centers is determined to be adequate and safe.

Design of Precast Panel

A. DATA :
Maximum span for Scour Valve Chamber Precast Panel = 1800 mm
Maximum span for Butterfly Valve Chamber Precast Panel = 1800 mm
Maximum span for Sluice Valve Chamber Precast Panel = 2100 mm

Concrete Grade = M15

Reinf. Grade = Fe 500
Live Load = 5 kN/m2
Concrete Density gc = 25 kN/m3

B. DESIGN :

So the Critical Span will be 2100mm,

L= 2.1 m
Thickness t = 0.15 m
Width of Panel W = 0.3 m

UDL due to self-wt = gc x W x t

w sw= 1.13 kN/m

UDL due to LL = LL x W
w LL= 1.5 kN/m

Total UDL = w = 2.63 kN/m

The precast panel will be designed for 2 cases,

1. Placed condition
2. Lifting condition

1. Placed conditon:

w. L2
Max. BM =
8

= 1.45 kN.m
2. Lifting Case:
R1 R2

Consider Lifting hook 300mm from panel edge.

Self-wt UDL = 1.13 kN/m
R1 = R2 = w sw. L 1.18 kN
=
2

M @ R1 = w sw X 0.3 x 0.3 / 2 …(wL2/2)

= 0.0506 kN.m

2
M @ mid = (w sw X (L/2) /2) - ( R1 x (L/2 -0.3))

= 0.6202 - 0.89

= -0.27 kN.m

0.051 0.051

-0.27 kN.m

BMD for Lifting Case

So, it is clear from the above calculations that the inplaced condition will govern the design.

So design the panel for moment of 1.45 kN.m

Factored Moment = 1.45 x 1.5 = 2.175 kN.m

Depth, D = 150 mm
Clr cover = 40 mm
Bar dia = 10 mm
