Answer all Questions

(Take suitable value, if necessary)
1 Discuss the design procedure for a mechanically stabilized earth wall with 10
geogrid as reinforcement.

2 Consider a geogrid-reinforced retaining wall. Referring to Fig. 1, given: H 5

= 6 m,  = 16.5 kN/m3, 1’ = 35°, Tall = 45 kN/m, FS(B) = 1.5, FS(P) = 1.5,
Cr = 0.8, and Ci = 0.75. For the design of the wall, determine SV and L.

3 Explain the stability analysis of retaining walls with neat diagrams. 10

4 Calculate the factor of safety of retaining wall with respect to sliding as

5 Discuss briefly about the stability of Braced Cuts in saturated clay with clear 5
diagrams.

6 Derive the expressions for various stresses developed in a thick-walled 5

pressurized cylinders.

7 In Fig. 3, L1 = 3.05 m, L2 = 1.53 m, l1 = 1.53 m, l2 = 1.52 m, c’ = 0, ’=30,  = 10

16 kN/m , sat = 17 kN/m and E = 207  10 MN/m . Using the equivalent beam

method, determine (a) Maximum moment (b) Theoretical depth of penetration

and (c) Anchor force per unit length of the structure.
