UEC 404 Tutorial 2 Solutin PDF

The document contains solutions to tutorial problems in signals and systems. [1] Finds the solutions to a given equation involving complex numbers. The solutions are x = 5/4 and y = 3. [2] Solves a similar equation for complex variables x and y. The solutions are found to be x = -4 and y = 20. The second solution is the complex conjugate, x = 2 - 4i. [3] No summary can be provided for this solution as it is less than 3 sentences.

SOLUTIONS of Tutorial #2

Solution [2]

Solution [3]

∗ ∗
Let = + , = − ; and real numbers. Substituting and in the given
equation obtain + + 3( − ) = 5 − 6
+ 3 + ( − 3 ) = 5 − 6
4 = 5 and − 2 = −6
= 5/4 and = 3
= 5/4 + 3
Solution [4]

(a) Substitute solution in equation: (2 + 4 ) + (2 + 4 ) + = 0

Expand terms in equation and rewrite as: (−12 + 2 + ) + (16 + 4 ) = 0
Real part and imaginary part equal zero.
−12 + 2 + = 0 and 16 + 4 = 0
Solve for : = −4 , substitute and solve for : = 20
(b) Since the given equation has real numbers, the second root is the complex conjugate
of the given root: 2 − 4 is the second solution.
Check: (2 − 4 ) − 4 (2 − 4 ) + 20
(Expand) = 4 − 16 − 16 − 8 + 16 + 20
= (4 − 16 − 8 + 20) + (−16 + 16) = 0
