explode all selected polylines. Right-click both performs the ‘explode’ and terminates the
function.

Additional vectors can be added with the ‘plus’ button ( ) at the upper right of the
Polyline Offset with Vectors dialog; vectors can be deleted from the list with the ‘x’
button ( ). One vector can be selected at a time, indicated by the dark blue highlight; the
parameters of this vector can be edited in the Start Point, Azimuth, Dip, and Length fields
in the dialog or through the Viewer – click the ‘pick’ button ( ) to set the start point of the
vector, and the ‘digitize’ button ( ) to drag the vector location and length. Multiple vectors
can be defined for the polyline, and each vector can be defined independently. To update

Once the vectors have been defined, the results can be previewed by clicking the Preview
button at the bottom of the dialog.
Vectors can be defined either relative to the existing polyline segments (the default
behavior) or as absolute vectors. An additional option allows the definition of an offset for
the polyline segment between two vectors.

Note that in the two Previews above, the vector display remains constant, since the vector
definitions are constant. The difference in the results is the result of calculating the azimuth
relative to the line segment azimuth (default behavior) and using absolute vector values
with no account taken of the azimuth of the segment being offset.

Once a satisfactory Preview has been generated, clicking the Apply button at the bottom of the
dialog will save the Offset results to the Geometry Object containing the string being offset.
Some of the possible uses for this enhanced polyline offset include:
a. Design slope transition zones of different benches.
b. Design transition zones between roads of different widths.
c. Design ramps from crests or toes for pit expansion projects.

To use one of the Verify options, choose Surface | Verify from the MS3D menu and click
left on the surface(s) you wish to verify; when finished choosing surfaces, click right to
activate the tool. Clicking Ctrl+A will select all of the surfaces in the Viewer. Confirm
that the options are correctly set; typically, it is not necessary to set a maximum area for
verifying or when patching triangulated solids, but this setting can prevent problems when
patching openings in an open surface such as the topo surface in this example. Click the
Verify button to get a report in the Message Window and orange indicator markers in the
Viewer showing where openings have been found. To convert these indicators into Virtual
Elements which can be saved, click the button to Convert Verify Highlights to Virtual
Elements. This will convert the orange highlight indicators to purple Virtual Elements
which can be saved using the Utilities | Virtual Elements | Move to Edit Object.
To repair the openings in the surface, it is necessary to select the surface for editing prior
to repair (if you select data with the Verify dialog open, the dialog will close). Choose the
surface(s) to repair as in the verify example above, but now the Repair option is active and
this choice will repair the opening(s) with triangulated patches. Optional check boxes allow
you to limit the largest area to be patched (necessary with open surface data) and/or save
the patches to a separate Geometry Object for independent examination and analysis.

The same techniques are available for use when verifying or repairing Duplicate Faces or
Self-intersecting Faces. This new interface provides a convenient single dialog with which
to perform these common surface functions.

The first change is in the Move to Edit Object option, which replaces the previous Copy

to Edit Object function. This option now creates a Geometry Element in the Edit object
from the Virtual Element, and the original Virtual Element is deleted. A last, even more

minor change was the renaming of the Clear options so that they now refer to Virtual Since
Elements as opposed to the old terminology. The functionality of these options has not 1970
changed. The colors used to display the Virtual Elements can be modified using the Viewer
| Preferences dialog.

Ring Design Tool
Enhancements to the MS3D Ring Design Tool used for underground blast design include
the ability to filter the Viewer display to only the current design plane, and the addition of

Since Pit Expansion Tool
1970 The MS3D Pit Expansion Tool has received a few updates in version 4.50, including the
ability to select more than pit base string on a single click of the Add button, display a
message in the MineSight Messages window indicating why a road or slot has aborted, and
a new option to save Base strings to a separate geometry object.
Additional new options allow you to specify road grade along the centerline of the road,
to create a centerline polyline during the expansion, and synchronization of the Viewer

Grid Set Creation Enhancements
The Grid Set creation dialog has been streamlined and enhanced in MS3D Version 4.50,
with a new option to create Grid Sets between the end points of an existing polyline, and
options to specify the size of the major and minor axes, as well as the cell size in each
direction. When creating a Grid Set Perpendicular to polyline, a new option allows you to
specify vertical grids rather than fully perpendicular.
Grid Set Between polyline end points is a new option found in the Grid Set creation
dialog. To use this option, a set of polyline can be selected either from the Viewer or through
the OCB selection option. Click right in the Viewer to end the selection, and then click OK to
create the Grid Set. The grid set is created with vertical planes oriented on the line between
Mintec, Inc. the two end points of each selected polyline.

MineSight Haulage
MineSight Haulage (MSHaulage), released in MS3D version 4.10, has been enhanced in
a number of ways. New options now make it feasible to divide an ‘atomic’ reserve unit
for multiple destinations, and define subzones for those destinations. New convenience
enhancements will auto-populate elevations, rolling resistance and maximum speed fields
when a route is divided by the user. A new IP attribute can be used to store cut sequencing
information, as well as additional cut management functionality. Additional details
regarding MSHaulage will be available at the MSHaulage workshop at this year’s Annual
Mintec Seminar.

• Polyline menu—Two new entries (Polyline | Explode and Polyline | Offset with
Vectors); Polyline | Offset and Polyline | Substring | Offset now can honor Edit
Grid orientation; Polyline | Clip Polylines, Points and Labels enhanced with
option to close clipped strings with boundary; the Polyline | Substring | Dynamic
Erase function has been updated; and Polyline | Size Parameters has also been
enhanced with a dialog update.
• Surface menu—Two new entries (Surface | Verify and Surface | Size
Parameters); additional warning message on Surface | Triangulate with
Selection; and enhanced Preview display in Surface | Create | Extrude Tool.

One common coding task that will be improved with this new option is adding TOPO% to
the model; previous versions required a solid for this, but now a single surface will produce
the same result.

New option for “polygon partitioning” (building cuts) in Polyline Clip Tool
A new enhancement has been added to Polyline | Clip Polylines, Points and Labels.
The combination of Split at boundaries and the new Close polygons against boundary
option allows you to create MSIP cuts within a polygon boundary. One of the applications
is multiple cuts over a grade control block model and these cuts need to be clipped at a
boundary (polygon). MSIP cuts need to be selected, but not boundary polygon. Select a
boundary polygon as a boundary limit then either pick the MSIP cuts in the viewer or check
Entire Selection checkbox.

The result can directly be imported into MSIP as 2D cuts for planning or to generate

Enhancements to MSGrail
A number of new enhancements have been added to the MSGrail library of scripts. The
Surface Intersector Tool has been exposed to MSGrail, so this tool can be utilized in new
MSGrail scripts; creation of a new PCF or MineSight Model File has also been added to
the MSGrail library of functions to allow the automation of these tasks from a script; and
another new entry in the MSGrail library allows the use of existing MSCompass multi-run
data through a script as well.
Finally, the Database Manager script has been enhanced to allow the execution of a
Microsoft® SQL Query through MineSight directly.
The additions and enhancements to MS3D versions 4.50 and 5.0 illustrate the commitment
that Mintec has made to continue development of new solutions to the common problems
that our clients face on a daily basis. With continued input from you, our valued MineSight
users, we intend to continue to accelerate our development efforts to make MineSight the
premier mine planning and design software package.
