1. Comment on the following field situations, making recommendations for the corrective
actions:
Answer:

A) One of the interviewers has an excessive rate of refusals in in-home personal interviewing
because he might have lack of experience and he is not communicative. Besides he might not be
outgoing with his respondents. In order to make an in-home interview he should be able to
rapport with the respondents and communicative. Recommendations for corrective actions are
that he can properly supervise interviews, attend all interviewer briefings, make sure to not
falsify any work and he can edit his questionnaires.

B) In a CATI situation phone numbers give busy signals at the first attempt because a lot of
interviewers are trying to interview at the same time. This creates a stress on the computer
assisted telephone system and makes it difficult for the call to connect through. To solve this
issue, interviewers can allocate slots and time duration to the respondents for the interviews.
Following date and time slots will avoid chaos and busy signals. The computer can have an auto
redialing software installed which will call the missed respondents and also notify the
interviewer about the interview.

C) . An interviewer reports that at the end of the interview many respondents asked if they have
answered the questions correctly. Because the interviewer may be asked too many solving problem
questions.
So, in this situation the interviewer should make their questionnaires more creative and analytical. Where
respondents answer will be descriptive and creative. By that method, interviewer don’t have to give them
the correct answer because their analytical performance will be counted.
D) . In this case scenario the recommendation is that, the interviewer should record the responses. He
can also collect the responder’s email id to send a confirmation or any feedback later.

2.Discuss the major sources of error related to survey fieldwork.


Ans: The important sources of survey fieldwork error are described below:
1. Sampling Error: It is one the most popular type of error in fieldwork survey and It
happens because we only take result of only a sample rather than considering the result
of the whole population.
2. Coverage error: It is related to the unsuccessful attempt to input some of the population
in the frame used for sample selection. It’s an error when single respondent gives
multiple responses.
3. Nonresponses error: It is a very popular source of non-sampling error. It’s an error of
non-observation where it tells us about the failure to collect all the required
information. It reduces the sample size it becomes bias and results in increased
variance.
4. Measurement error: This is the error which is the difference between the measured
value of quantity and its actual value. Measurement value has four primary sources
these are 1. questionnaire 2. Data collection method 3. Interviewer 4. Respondents
5. Processing Error: This type of error happens after the data is collected the problem
happens during the process of conversion of data to information. It happens mostly
during printing questioners and all kind of post-collection operations.
