METHOD OF JOINTS. State Whether The Force Is in Tension or in Compression

The document provides instructions for an engineering mechanics assignment involving determining forces in various truss members using two methods. Students are asked to use the method of joints to determine forces in members of 5 truss configurations, and use the method of sections to determine forces in specific members of 6 different truss configurations, stating whether each force is tension or compression.

2. Using METHOD OF SECTIONS, determine forces in members BC, GC, and GF of

the truss shown in Figure 6. State whether the force is in Tension or in Compression.
3. Using METHOD OF SECTIONS, determine forces in members AB, AF, and GF of
the truss shown in Figure 7. State whether the force is in Tension or in Compression.
4. Using METHOD OF SECTIONS, determine forces in members DE, DF, and CE of
the truss shown in Figure 8. State whether the force is in Tension or in Compression.
5. Using METHOD OF SECTIONS, determine forces in members BC, CE, and EF of
the truss shown in Figure 9. State whether the force is in Tension or in Compression.
6. In the Fink truss shown in Fig. 10, the web member BC is perpendicular to the line
joining A and D. Also member EF is perpendicular to the line joining D and G. Use
METHOD OF SECTIONS to determine the force in members DF, DE, and CE.
State whether the force is in Tension or in Compression.
