COURSE SYLLABUS

I. Course Code : MATH001

II. Course Title : College Algebra

IV. Course Description:

A course that covers discussion on a wide range of topics necessary to meet the
demands of college Mathematics. It starts with algebraic expressions. Trigonometric, Logarithmic
and exponential functions and equations and their applications.

V. Objective:

After completing this course, the students should be able to:

 Draw and interpret scatter diagrams;


 Find intercepts by hand and with a graphing utility;
 Graph a simple function, including graphing with a graphing utility;
 Test an equation for symmetry with respect to the x-axis, the y-axis, and the origin;
 Solve equations by hand and with a graphing utility, including linear, quadratic,
radical and absolute value;
 Find the value of a function;
 Find the domain of a function;
 Identify the graph of a function;
 Graph a function by using the technique of transformation;
 Construct a function using addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and
composition;
 Graph a polynomial function;
 Find zeros of functions, both real and complex;
 Be able to find the important parts of a function: e.g. Zero and, where it's positive and
negative;
 Be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide complex numbers
 Be able to find the conjugate of a complex number
 Be able to calculate powers of i
 Be able to simplify the nth root of an expression
 Be able to convert between radicals and rational exponents
 Be able to solve radical equations
