Research Log #6 - Solutionary Project 2020

Date: March 12, 2020
Name:  Mackenzie Masoe
Essential Question:
How does homelessness affect the confidence and wellbeing of people?
Three Points to Prove:
#1: Women have a harder time building confidence when being homeless.
#2: Elderly have a rough time getting back on their feet after homelessness.
#3: Children and Teens who are homeless experience less self-worth than those who are
not.
Point that this Source Proves:
#1: Women have a harder time building confidence when being homeless.

Excerpts (These should provide insight into the Point to Prove):

“People experiencing homelessness are stripped of their dignity. People pass them by on
the street as if they’re invisible.”

“There are 216,000 girls and women living on the streets of the United States and
millions more globally. Periods do not stop for hurricanes. Clothes need to be washed and
changed.”

“Teen girls do not attend school 3-5 days each month out of embarrassment that they
cannot afford menstrual hygiene products. Women cannot stand straight while wearing an
8-year-old bra and they cannot entertain the idea of going on a job interview 3-5 days
every month.”

Analysis (How does this source support the Point to Prove?):

A huge problem for homeless women are the feminine issues and the acquisition of
feminine products. This organization named, I support the girls, are helping homeless women
with this problem. The amount of shame and guilt these women feel when they have no access to
these things are undeniably enormous. In this organization, they take donations of feminine
products like disposable period products and bras. As women in society having the bare
necessities like these things are extremely important when trying to pick up their lives.
