The following list represents corrections to the second printing of the AISC Design Guide 2, Steel and
Composite Beams with Web Openings.

27 In the right column, third full paragraph, last line, replace the equation for φFnAns with
φFnAns = 0.75 x 0.6 x 58 ksi x 3/8 in. x 120 in. = 196 kips ≥ 52.7 OK.

37 In the right column under the heading, High moment-shear ratio, the name “Clauson”
should be replaced by the name, “Clawson” in the second line. Also in this paragraph, the
reference, “Clauson & Darwin 1982” should be replaced with “Clawson & Darwin
1982a.”

38 In the right column, second paragraph under Failure, “Clawson & Darwin 1982” should
be replaced with “Clawson & Darwin 1982a.”

38 In the right column, fourth paragraph under Failure, “Clawson & Darwin 1982” should
be replaced with “Clawson & Darwin 1982a.”

39 In the left column, first paragraph under c. Shear connectors and bridging, “Donahey &
Darwin 1986b” should be replaced with “Donahey & Darwin 1986.”

40 In the left column, third paragraph under h. Load and resistance factors, the following
changes should be made:
line 9 “83 test specimens” should be replaced with “85 test specimens”
and “24 steel beams” should be replaced with “29 steel beams”
line 10 “14 with rectangular openings” should be replaced with “19 with
rectangular openings”
line 14 “22 steel beams with reinforced openings” should be replaced with “21

41 In the upper left paragraph, second and third line, “Clawson & Darwin 1982” should be
replaced with “Clawson & Darwin 1982a” and “Clawson & Darwin 1983” should be
replaced with “Clawson & Darwin 1982b.”

41 In the caption for Figure 5.10, “Darwin & Donahey 1986” should be replaced with
“Donahey & Darwin 1986.”

47 In the left column, second line from the bottom, the variable “dd” should be replaced with
the variable “dl.”

47 In the right column, top line, a parenthesis should be added after the Pcldl term.
51 In the first paragraph, third line, under 6.3 APPROXIMATE PROCEDURE, “ASCE
(1973)” should be replaced with “ASCE (1971).”

51 In the caption for Figure 6.1, “(ASCE 1973)” should be replaced with “(ASCE 1971).”

52 In the left column, the term “ao3” in the numerator of the equation for θT should be
replaced with the term “ao2.”

52 In the right column, “K = shape factor (29)” should be replaced with “K = shape factor
(Knostman et al. 1977).”

55 Under the “References” heading, add “Note: Subsequent references by the same first
author are noted by ‘________.’ ”

55 In the left column, replace the reference, “________ Tests of Composite Beams with
Web Openings,” with the following:
