INTERNAL VIVA ACTIVITY

ROLL NO. – BETN1CS18084

Q 1. DEFINE PSK?
ANS. PSK - Phase-shift keying (PSK) is a digital modulation process which
conveys data by changing (modulating) the phase of a
constant frequency reference signal (the carrier wave). The modulation is
accomplished by varying the sine and cosine inputs at a precise time. It is widely
used for wireless LANs, RFID and Bluetooth communication.

Q 2. What is SAMPLING?
ANS. In signal processing, sampling is the reduction of a continuous-time signal to
a discrete-time signal. A common example is the conversion of a sound wave (a
continuous signal) to a sequence of samples (a discrete-time signal).
Q 3. What are the different types of digital modulation
techniques?
ANS. These modulation techniques are classified into two major types: analog and
digital or pulse modulation.

Q 4. Define Pulse amplitude modulation?

ANS. Pulse-amplitude modulation (PAM), is a form of signal modulation where the
message information is encoded in the amplitude of a series of signal pulses.

Q5. Define Pulse width modulation?

ANS. Pulse width modulation (PWM), or pulse-duration modulation (PDM), is a
method of reducing the average power delivered by an electrical signal, by
effectively chopping it up into discrete parts. The average value
of voltage (and current) fed to the load is controlled by turning the switch between
supply and load on and off at a fast rate.

Q 6. What is Binary Phase shift Keying (BPSK) ?

ANS. Binary Phase-shift keying (BPSK) is a digital modulation scheme that conveys
data by changing, or modulating, two different phase s of a reference signal (the
carrier wave ). The constellation points chosen are usually positioned with uniform
angular spacing around a circle. This gives maximum phase-separation between
adjacent points and thus the best immunity to corruption.

Q 7. What is the difference between Bit Rate and Baud Rate?

ANS. The crucial difference between bit rate and baud rate that one change of state
can transfer one bit, or slightly more or less than one bit that relies on the modulation
technique used. Hence, the given equation defines the relation between the two:

Bit rate = baud rate x the number of bit per baud

Q8. Compare bandwidth ASK, PSK and FSK.?
ANS. Amplitude-shift keying (ASK), frequency-shift keying (FSK), and phase-shift
keying (PSK) are digital modulation schemes. ASK refers to a type of amplitude.
modulation that assigns bit values to discrete amplitude levels. FSK is divided into
noncoherent and coherent forms

Q 9. What do you mean by FM and classify FM?

ANS. Frequency modulation (FM) is a method of impressing data onto an
alternating-current (AC) wave by varying the instantaneous frequency of the wave.
This scheme can be used with analog or digital data.

Q 10. What is multiplexing? Name the types of multiplexing?

ANS. Multiplexing is the process of combining multiple signals into one signal, over a
shared medium. If the analog signals are multiplexed, then it is called as analog.
multiplexing. Similarly, if the digital signals are multiplexed, then it is called as digital
multiplexing.
