Cutting:
- As I was using “final cut pro x” as my editing
software it was easy to cut down the footage
to get the clips I needed. To do this I used the
shortcut for the blade tool “B” and cut roughly
where I wanted the next shot to start or stop.
Then I went to the beginning of each shot
making sure it lined up with the last shot
making sure that the cut looked seamless.
Overlaying Flashbacks:
- Overlaying the flashbacks onto the original footage was a simple but
time consuming task. First I
added the trimmed flashback
footage on top of the main
footage in the time line, then
using key frames I faded in the
flashbacks lining them up with
the beat of the music and the
movements of the subject. I then
turned up the opacity of the
flashbacks so you could see the main footage through the clip, this
helped give of the memory/flashback look we were going for. Then
to finish it off I used the pre-installed video effect “glow” on top of
the footage to amplify that memory/flashback effect further.
Audio enhancement:
- Even though I wasn’t using the
original audio from any of my
clips I did some audio
enhancements on the music file
itself ensuring there were no
read peaks in audio which would
blow out the speaker upon
watching. I then increased the
dips between the loudest and
the quietest parts of the audio
giving an extra kick and also
boosting the emotion felt when
watching the final edit.
Colour correction:
- My final step to editing the music video was colour correction, a
simple yet effect trick. First I went through each clip and upped the
contrast making the colours pop. Then I went through each clip
again analysing the lighting and adjusting the exposure accordingly
to insure all the footage was of similar looks. Finally I fine-tuned the
colour in each shot so they all matched the same colour which made
the transition between each shot even smoother.
