Module 2 - Hull and Superstructure Modelling

This document provides an overview of modelling a ship's hull and superstructure in 3 steps or less: 1) The modelling must include the superstructure and deckhouse as they contribute to resistance and act as load boundaries. Control points are used to generate surfaces like NURBS. 2) For the hull, control points are moved to form the shape and match characteristics like SAC. Design lines and framing are added. 3) The superstructure is similarly created with control points to match criteria and form the shape above the hull surface.

Ships Hull Modelling
• Different with manual / academic study… Model Set UP
hull modelling must include model of
superstructure & deckhouse Why? • sistership & benchmark

• Deck house & superstructure could be

• Primary Data – hull
categorized as watertight compartment • Ship particulars (LOA, B, T,
(depend on purpose and design code) H, form coefficient)

• Deck house & superstructure also • Displacement, SAC, LCG

contributes to overall ship resistance (drag
• Lines plan
force of air) and effect on resistance
simulation • Primary data - superstruture
• For some analysis, the shape of deckhouse • Calculation & Preliminary
& superstructure will effect to ship load as lay out
load boundaries for analysis
