WELCOME

Sometimes the best way to learn a new thing is to “just do it!”,

so in this spirit this brief guide is intended to get you going with
creating your own subliminal recordings.

However, all the important background and technical

information you need is in The Subliminal Cookbook main ebook
and you should read this before making any 'serious'
recordings.

But for the moment, on with the 'Executive Summary'.....

Obviously, before you can create your own recordings you will
need to install the special edition of the Audacity sound
recording/editing software. This is at the heart of this package
and you will need to have it set up before any of the subsidiary
software can be used. When Audacity is up and working, you
will also be sire that your sound system is working properly so
that you can then be sure that all the other programs will also
finction as intended.

Hardware needed

The hardware requirements are pretty basic, and are listed in

more detail in the Subliminal Cookbook ebook. Basically all you
need is a mid-range or better computer with a sound card plus
stereo headphones and a mono microphone (a combined
headset is most convenient - a few pounds on ebay).

You will obviously also need a CD-RW drive if you are going to
burn the MP3 recordings to CD, but an MP3 player may be more
convenient for this.

Preparation

If you have not already done so you will need to 'unzip' the
software in the large archive file, cbfiles.zip. This is most
conveniently done using a 2-pane file manager with zip support,
such as Free Commander.

Simply 'open' cbfiles.zip in one window and copy (highlight -

F5) the files to a suitable folder in the other window. You can
create a suitable folder or use an existing one.

When you have 'unzipped' the software, install the audio editor
(audacity-scb-133.exe) first. You may or may not need the
additional software depending on what 'bells and whistles' you
want to incorporate - please read the main ebook to decide
what you will need.

Spend a little time playing with Audacity in order to get a 'feel'
for the software. In particular, 'import' one or two existing MP3
files (Project – Import Audio) and mess around with these.
Remember that you are working with copies of the original files
and you cannot damage these, whatever you do in Audacity!

Check the sound system

To check your microphone, make sure it is connected and click

on the 'Record' button in the audio editor. Speak into the
microphone and check that a trace results on screen.
Instructions for setting system sound levels etc. are included in
the main ebook.

If you cannot create a recording you may need to try another

microphone, as some have 'impedance' levels that are not
compatible with some sound cards. It is also important to get
the 'system' input levels correctly set. If you still cannot create

a basic voice recording you may need technical assistance
beyond the scope of this guide to get the sound recording set-
up working properly.

With the mike working properly you are almost ready to create
your first recording.

Spoken affirmations track

Obviously this is the most important component of the 'mix'.

The first thing to decide is which issue (limit it to one issue

only) you will deal with first. Design a short series of
'affirmations' following the process described in the main ebook,
and print these out when they have been finalised.

Set up your microphone, start recording and simply read these

affirmations out in a clear but 'normal' voice, with a regular
pause between each affirmation. If you fluff a line, just pause
and repeat it – errors can easily be edited out later.

Save this recording under any name, then use the editing
facilities to chop out errors and perhaps apply filters or other
effects to produce a clear, evenly-spaced set of suggestions. It
will probably be best to keep this track short at this stage.

Sound mask (background)

You can use the supplied sound mask generator (Raindrop) or

make your own using music, recorded sounds, tones produced
by the sound generator software included or anything else you
choose, or you can simply dispense with a sound mask
altogether.

Experiment with the editor to mix together the spoken track

and background recording. When you have got this right,
highlight and copy the spoken suggestions track and paste
multiple copies into the same editing window to follow on from

each other for the full length of the sound mask. There are full
instructions in the ebook, and the audio editor also has pretty
comprehensive help files.

Often simple is best - just the fact that the spoken

suggestions/affirmations will be in your own voice provides 90%
of the power of this system. However, once you have made this
first 'basic' recording you can experiment with the techniques
and software described in the ebook to create more complicated
recordings incorporating various effects. Don't forget to save
'projects' at every stage in case you need to go back to earlier
versions.

And that's just about it. All that remains is to 'export' the
recording, usually in MP3 format to save space.

This document is intended simply as a brief introduction.

Please read the main e-book (cookbook_v2.pdf) for
detailed installation instructions and 'how to'
information.
