The document provides instructions for installing, maintaining, and replacing bushings on oil-immersed power transformers. Bushings direct the electrical current from the transformer to external connections while insulating the transformer from the external environment.

Bushings should either be pre-assembled and installed by placing gaskets and flanges on the transformer cover and securing the bushing in place. Alternatively, bushings can be assembled from loose parts by assembling components and securing to the transformer cover.

To dismount bushings, first lower the oil level, disconnect internal connections, unscrew fixing nuts, lift the flange and remove clamping pieces to remove the complete bushing.

HV BUSHINGS FOR OIL IMMERSED POWER TRANSFORMER

12 to 52 kV - 250 to 630 - 1000 to 5000 A

According to DIN 42533-42534 & EN 50180

DESCRIPTION, MOUNTING AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS

A) – GENERAL:

Transformer bushings having porcelain as main insulation and suitable for outdoor installation.

The lower part is directly in contact with the transformer oil and the inside space shall be completely filled
with oil.

The bushing is suitable to withstand the test voltages and the other prescriptions of the IEC 60137
Standard.

The bushing can be installed at any angle in respect of vertical. In case of installation at more than 30°
special execution may be necessary. Anyway the cantilever values given by IEC 60137 standard are
fulfilled.

B) – INSTALLATION:

Normally the bushing is supplied pre-assembled, excluding the fixing components kit, and ready to be
installed on the transformer cover before putting the active part into the tank.

Installation steps for pre-assembled bushings (refer to drawing no.3227):

1- Place on the transformer cover the plain gasket (pos.10) and fixing flange (pos.24) making sure
that gasket is well centred with cover hole.
2- Put the complete bushing in the opening on the cover.
3- Place the copper spacer ring (pos.39) on porcelain flange (see detail A on drawing)
4- Lift the flange to allow the clamping pieces (pos. 25) to be put on the studs.
5- Fix the flange with nuts and washers. Tighten the nuts in a crossover and uniformly (refer to
section E for suggested tightening values).
6- The support for the arcing horns, if supplied, must be fixed to the studs at same time as the
flange, to avoid stresses to the porcelain.
7- Connect the internal connexions.
8- After the oil filling of the transformer, it is necessary to vent the air from the bushing, by means
the proper screw (pos.17) located in the upper part of the bushing.
During filling unscrew the brass screw (pos.17) with flat-bladed screwdriver until oil
comes out of the bore. This means that bushing is correctly filled and air bubbles trapped
in the oil during filling came out.
After the oil leaks screw in the screw and clean the bushing head off oil residuals with a
cloth.

When bushing is supplied in loose parts below steps have to be followed (refer to drawing no.3227):

1- Assemble centre ring (pos.32) with provided screws (pos.33)

2- Place fibre gasket (pos.08) on conductor making sure that gasket is well positioned on ring.
3- Put the porcelain (pos.01) on conductor making sure conductor fits well in porcelain’s slot and is
well centred.
4- Place plain gasket (pos.09) on top of porcelain making sure that gasket is well centred with bore
on porcelain.
5- Assemble vent screw (pos.17) and fibre gasket (pos.16) on brass cap E (pos.03)
6- Place brass cap E top of plain gasket.
7- Place ring gasket (pos.07) top of brass cap E.
8- Place copper contact ring (pos.23) top of brass cap E.
9- Place brass top washer F (pos.04) top of ring gasket.
10- Screw bass nut (pos.14 - refer to point E for suggested tightening values).
11- Place on the transformer cover the flange gasket and fixing flange making sure that gasket is well
centred with cover hole.
12- Put the complete bushing in the opening on the cover.
13- Place copper spacer ring on porcelain flange (see detail A on drawing)
14- Lift the flange (pos.24) to allow the assembly of clamping pieces (pos.25) on studs.
15- Fix the flange with nuts and washers. Tighten the nuts in a crossover and uniformly (refer to point
E for suggested tightening values).
16- The support for the arcing horns, if supplied, must be fixed to the studs at same time as the
flange, to avoid stresses to the porcelain.
17- Connect the internal connexions.
18- After the oil filling of the transformer, it is necessary to vent the air from the bushing, by means
the proper screw located in the upper part of the bushing.
During oil filling unscrew the brass screw (pos.17) with flat-bladed screwdriver until oil
comes out of the bore. This means that bushing is correctly filled and air bubbles trapped
in the oil during filling came out.
After the oil leaks screw in the screw and clean the bushing head off oil residuals with a
cloth.

C) – DISMOUNTING OF BUSHING:

To dismount the bushing, first lower the oil level a few centimetres below the transformer cover and
disconnect the internal connexions, then unscrew the fixing nuts, lift the flange and take out the clamping
pieces. Now the complete bushing can be taken out.

D) – REPLACEMENT OF PORCELAIN:

It is possible to replace the porcelain and/or the gaskets only without disconnect the internal connexions
and with oil lowered only at cover level. Refer to drawing no.3227.

1- Unscrew the flag (if supplied) and the nut. Be sure that the copper rod is supported to avoid
stresses to the internal connexions.
2- Take out the items 04-07-23-03-09.
3- Dismount the fixing devices (flange and clamping pieces and spacer ring, if there) as detailed at
section C and take out the porcelain.
4- Put the new porcelain, being sure that the gasket item 08 is properly located and that brass ring
P on conductor fits without problems the slot in the porcelain, and fix it to the cover as detailed in
point B3 to B8.
5- Remount items 09-03-07-23-04.
6- Screw brass nut and tighten it according to suggested value (refer to section E)
7- Screw brass flag terminal (if supplied) and lock it with two provided screws (refer to section E for
tightening values)
8- Vent the air through vent screw once oil is refilled.
