The key takeaways are definitions of sector, segment and how to calculate their areas, as well as how to calculate the area of common region between two intersecting circles.

A sector is a region bounded by two radii and an arc. The area of a sector is given by A = (θ/360) * πr^2, where θ is the angle subtended at the centre and r is the radius of the circle.

A segment is a region of a circle bounded by a chord and an arc. The area of a segment is given by the area of the sector minus the area of the triangle formed.

12.1: Sector
A sector is a region bounded by two radii and an arc. A minor sector is one
whose area is less than a half of the area of the circle while a major sector is one
whose area is greater than a half of the area of the circle, as in figure 12.1.
