Course Description:
UNAD, faithful to its mission as a leading organization in open and distance
education, plays an essential role in the advances related to the topic of
globalization. Therefore, its internationalization policy seeks to guide the steps of the
national and international community towards bilingual scenarios.
According to the above, this English B1 course is part of the foreign language
component present in the curriculum guideline of academic programs UNAD is a
theoretical.
According to the above, this course English B1 is part of the component of foreign
language present in the curriculum guidelines of academic programs UNAD is a
theoretical and practical course which has three (3) academic credits, which include
independent study and tutorial accompaniment, for a total of 144 hours of academic
work; distributed in 106 hours of independent study, 38 hours of tutorial support
and monitoring for the purpose of:
 Recognize and appropriate the basic contents of English.
 Understand the foreign language through the different skills: Oral
comprehension (audios and written reflection of audio- visual materials) and
written comprehension (Writing, interpretation and content development)
 Encourage in the student the importance of learning English for their work,
academic and personal environment.
 Take advantage of the techno-didactic resources to learn a foreign language
with autonomy and tutorial accompaniment.
 2. TRAINING PURPOSES

Purpose of course training: To develop the student’s communicative skills in the

English language so that they can understand and use a standard language on
familiar subjects such as work, study, leisure activities, etc. Likewise, you can obtain
and supply information to others on topics related to the environment, using
idiomatic expressions.

Course Competences:
 Identifies essential information in an oral text related to predictable or
everyday subjects, as long as they are articulated clearly.
• Extract the subject from a conversation or short text with simple language.
• Understands descriptions of places or routines, referring to specific aspects.
• Understand situations with a concrete need to achieve or respond.

 Narrates oral or written events from the past.
 Handles exchanges within a conversation helped by your interlocutor to
maintain it effectively.
 Uses simple techniques to start, maintain and close conversations.
 Uses media and technology tools placed at his disposal.

4. LEARNING STRATEGY

Description of learning strategy:

Describe the learning strategy: The B1 English course is developed under the
task-based learning strategy, where the student must study and develop some
content and from this develop a series of activities that will strengthen their
learning. The B1 English course will be developed in 6 environments, which are:
starting information, knowledge, collaborative learning, practice learning,
monitoring and evaluation, student’s management.
 Starting information: Forum News, General Forum, Presentation of the
course, Agenda, Duties and conditions for course development and how to
navigate the classroom.
 Knowledge: Contents and learning supports and glossary.
 Collaborative learning: Guides and forum recognition activities, Writing,
speaking and Creating the Blog.
 Practice learning: Guide for the development of the practical component
and tutorial of resources for the interaction.
 Monitoring and evaluation: E-portfolio, submission links, Self-
assessments, evaluative activities, Final Evaluation.
 Student’s management: Support information and General of the
university for the student.
This English course has a high practical content, since the tasks are carried out
production activities, as well as the constant review on online content of the
classroom and suggested practice pages for the development of different activities.
The evaluation of this course will be carried out as follows:

Initial evaluation: Where the student must develope an exercise of recognition of the
course with a percentage value of 5%
Intermediate evaluation: Where the student must develop tasks, writing, speaking,
in which applies the knowledge learned according to the units of the course with a
value of 70%
Final evaluation: Development of the final national assessment of the classroom with
a value of 25%

 6. STRATEGIES OF ACADEMIC SUPPORT

Description of academic support strategies to apply in this course

The English B1 course tutor network assists students synchronously in the aula:
Synchronous Attention by Skype: Different schedules are arranged to attend
student’s concerns and doubts in real time.
Web-Conferences in the course: Different meetings are organized at varios times
where students can interact with their tutors using the tools of web- conference.The
timetable can be found in the Knowledge environment, general forum and
internal mail.
Attention in CEADs: Students will be attend in person and in real time at the
centers and /or CEADs.
